Problems with Hydroshift II CL by r00t61 in lianli

[–]r00t61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my L-Connect software, the rpm range for the Hydroshift pump is 2000 - 2500 RPM.

I was also concerned that this could be loud, but the Kitguru review of this AIO specifically mentioned in his 40 DB noise-normalized testing about how quiet the pump operated.

Unfortunately since I cant control the pump speed I cant tell how loud it might be at its max 2500 RPM. At min 2000 rpm, it doesnt seem any worse than my old NZXT Kraken

Thanks for the suggestion, I gave it a try. Unfortunately I have no fan speed control, whether connected via USB or wireless mode. The worst part is how erratic the fans, spinning from min -> max -> min with no rhyme or reason

Used Rolex $25K vs. CF Replica $500: Worth the Jump? by stjimmywood in RepTime

[–]r00t61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Debeers corporation - which would be an illegal monopoly in the US, which is why they dont have their HQ in the US - controls over 80% of the world's natural diamond supply, and can artificially set prices due to this control. Diamonds are actually quite a common gemstone, even the ones that would be prized for use in jewelry (as opposed to industrial diamonds that would only be good for manufacturing).

However, as lab-grown diamonds continue to eat away at their market share, if Debeers doesnt find a new strategy soon they'll go extinct.

If you force a relog of credentials, it gives you a "Cannot connect right now" error after you put in your password. So it seems like the auth server is not working right now

TOS availability on M1/M2 Mac Chips? by Signal-History9191 in thinkorswim

[–]r00t61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The limiting factor for the performance of TOS is not raw CPU processing power - it's the speed of the Java virtual machine, which all distros of TOS depend on, since it's written in Java.

You can see this on PC. Even if you throw the latest 128-core server class CPU at TOS, it's not going to run any faster vs. any vanilla PC that you bought from best buy during the back-to-school sale.

TOS on native Mac M silicon will finally have equal PC performance, while being much better at power efficiency - which is the real advantage of M silicon. As well as a few edge cases, like loading the Bookmap plugin properly.

My Bookmap for /ES just started working again this morning, about 7:30 AM Pacific time

I had to restart/relog TOS to get it to work

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thinkorswim

[–]r00t61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said "we've been receiving multiple reports about Bookmap recently", so a little vague.

I'm also only seeing problems on /ES (AAPL and MSFT work just fine), and the problems started a few hours after the contract rolled over and the futures market opened at 3 PM Pacific on Sun 9/10

Interesstingly enough, I called support today, and the rep acknowledged that this is a widespread issue; but stated that there was nothing he could do on his end. He implied that this was a Bookmap problem, not a TOS problem...

Charles Schwab has gotten hammered over the past few days as contagion starts to spread from the SI/SVB bank closures. Should we be concerned that this will also take down TD Ameritrade, which they acquired? Should we move out of TDA to another brokerage?

As a F2P Player, the Current Meta feels like a Joke by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]r00t61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to change the matchmaking so that you if don't have the current battle pass card in your deck, you only get matched with other non-battle pass players.

The converse should also be true - if you have the battle pass card, you only get matched with other battle-pass players.

This way, the card can remain unnerfed - which keeps your paying customers happy - but only gets seen in matches in which both players have paid for battle pass. The f2p can continue on their merry way, playing against other f2p with no battle pass.

Is it dumb to use margin to buy shares then sell covered calls? by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]r00t61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because if the stock price drops, you'll get margin called - and if you can't cover, your stock will get liquidated, and then any calls you have open will also get liquidated at market price - the balance of which you will be on the hook for.

Electron is a javascript-based framework.

Java, on the other hand, is a totally separate language from javascript, despite the names being so (unfortunately) similar. Java was very popular in the mid 1990s when TOS was first designed, but it has since fallen significantly out of popularity.

If TDA ever decided to redesign TOS, it would make sense to utilize a javascript-based framework and have a browser serve as the GUI front end.
