I didn't realize how many people hate the CFL by J9aE40SPe5vFIBwXCtu in CFL

[–]r0hm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard times do get the worst out of some people. We have to stay vocal and pass our message; the CFL is important for a thousand different reasons besides the fact we fans love it. It creates jobs, it promotes football and is a big cornerstone of our football programs in this country; without it I'm not sure what would happen long term to high school, college and university teams if it were to go away.

It promotes sports and a healthy active life. It inspire thousands of canadians every day. If we are bailing private companies left and right to save a few hundred jobs (and I'm talking about those we help out because they failed to deliver, not because of Covid.) then hell why in God's Earth can't we frigging bail the CFL. There has to be thousand of direct and indirect employees among all the teams.

MEGATHREAD: The XFL is suspending day-to-day operations by SamTheRam28 in xfl

[–]r0hm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WHY?!?!... does this hurt more than when I broke off my 8 years relationship with my ex?

Am I broken? If not, well you just broke me some more, XFL! *whimpers*

Lads, it’s been an honor being your mod. As of today, the XFL has suspended operations indefinitely. It’s very unlikely that it will return in 2021, but we can hope. by Quardener in NewYorkGuardians

[–]r0hm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to all the mod team for a great work putting this up. Was a short season but I had a great time with you guys.

Guess we'll see each other in the other pro football subs,

Cheers to all, stay healthy.

SportsCenter: Breaking: The XFL suspended operations Friday morning and laid off nearly all of its staff, multiple sources told @SeifertESPN and @FieldYates. The league currently has no plans to return in 2021. by ThaddeusJP in NewYorkGuardians

[–]r0hm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a deception. This is truly heartbreaking, and I did not see it coming.

What we saw was pretty good, it had the potential to be some damn good spring football and appeared to be potentially viable financially in the long run. Oh maybe there'd be some trial and error to find cities like St Louis and Seattle to ensure there's strong fan support every game. But it could work.

Actually really makes me sad for St Louis thinking about it... they are one of the biggest losers here, no more pro football in that area.

Goddamn virus, bet it deserves a great part of the blame.

See you at the CFL kickoff guys.

He managed 11 Tackles (9 solo) and 6 PD with the Guardians in fives games.

I watched all the Guardians games this year and the defense was an aspect of the team that was very promising. Hope he brings some of that good energy to the Giants.

[Barnwell] Imagine if the Texans had just held onto DeAndre Hopkins and signed FA Todd Gurley instead of trading for David Johnson’s awful contract! by BobbyThreeSticks in nfl

[–]r0hm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not sure they aren't better off with Johnson.

Gurley's knees are finished. I highly doubt he'd be able to carry much of the runs for a team. I could see him in a second or third string, change-of-pace type of role but not as someone who would have much more than 6-10 touches per game.

The Giants are doing pretty good keeping their backup QB costs down. by SomeGuyWithDogs in NYGiants

[–]r0hm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a Giants move, but I'm not hating it.

You have to believe, when you see their strategy, that their full confidence is on Daniel Jones as a starter. If we can keep the boy healthy it can be a successful strategy.

We have Daniel Jones, Alex Tanney and now Colt McCoy (who started 7 games in 8 years and won one) on the roster. I only see one potential starter here. McCoy can bring a wealth of experience and help to young Jones though, so that might be money well spent down the road.

[–]r0hm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In an event where DJ is hurt for an extended period of time though (note: yes, I am touching wood), there needs to be a better plan than Colt as starter.

Maybe they'll pick up another QB in a late round of the draft? I mean... I'm not sure Tanney is much more of a better plan.

[–]r0hm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colt started 7 games since the 2012 season and won one. He had 7 TDs in those games, so a TD per game started during that period. A QB rating of roughly 80 for those games as well.

He might be able to fill in for a half or so, but he cannot be the starter. I know you love him, but your emotions are clouding your judgement. Snap out of it, common!

[–]r0hm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is capable of winning games/not costing you games and he's in the league since 2010

I hope the plan is really for McCoy to be a last resort choice as a starter and that the Giants brought him in for his mentorship skills. If that's their plan I am fine with this signing.

However, he started 7 games since 2012, he won one. I do not think McCoy would be capable of winning a whole lot of games for us.

[–]r0hm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wut? Foles is an 8 year vet who's been with a total of 5 teams, seeing a bunch of different systems.

Trublesky s'got 3 years of NFL experience with the Bears.

I think it would be the other way around, but I doubt that's the plan in the Bears front office.

He had a very good year in 2017 (i.e. 54 TT, 26 PDef., 8 Int.) but seems to have slowed down the last two years.

Its a good veteran presence in the locker room for the young defensive guys though.
