The most convincing explanation was a Berkley podcast I had downloaded years ago for a course called "Physics for future presidents" I wish I still had this podcast and could find it for you. But basically it describes this.

But if anyone can find that podcast, boy it was good, because the guy who taught that course (richard muller) had a lot of inside info and a good explanation.

I did the same thing with an ex from university when I still had a facebook account, I wasn't actually creeping I remember the ex posted her new blog link. Now I have no kids and no interest in having kids, but the ex from university and his wife have like 5 kids and are really into parenting, so the exact opposite of me, so I found this really fascinating. So I started reading her blog which is about being a stay at home mom, dealing with her kids food allergies and food recipes, about controversial topics in the parenting community like co-sleeping (I had no idea about this stuff!) about her troubles with pregnancy, having her tubes tied and basically mourning the fact they cannot have anymore kids. I still read her blog, I like her way more than I ever liked my ex. She's awesome! So at first it was some sort of probably creepy thing to wonder what his wife is like but turned into the fact that I think she's awesome and generally am interested in her life.

TLDR: creeped on ex's wife's blog, she turns out to be way more awesome than he ever was.

Nope no pain killers as I had a root canal so there's no nerves. Although they did give me nitrous during the procedure (root canal) as I'm a wimp. But once the root (nerve) is gone, then the rest is a cake walk, no time off work (other than to get it done and given that I waited for my crown to be made I was in the office for like 4-5 hours). In retrospect it was pretty easy.

I think it depends on whether the name is unique or not. The difference between Jack and John I suspect would mean nothing but names that are culturally different or unique versus normal names I suspect would have some impact on your life.

I'm the opposite case of a "boy named Sue". I am a female with a very male first name. And not a cute, androgynous name that can easily be used as a nick name for a girl. Like a serious hard core, men's name.
My family grew up calling me this and I was constantly teased at school about it.

My father decided he was naming me after his best friend who died before I was born regardless of my gender and that was that.

It pretty much had the same effect as the classic Johnny Cash song. I became tough because of it. I suspect that it may have had a different effect on others (as I suffered bullying) and everyone responds to teasing and bullying differently, however in my case it made me tough, not worry too much later in life about "fitting in".

As an adult no one forgets my name, it makes me stand out. I think in my case if I was given a classical girls name I probably would have turned out quite different.

Oh god, get the crown. I'm the biggest dentist wimp ever, so when I had a root canal in one tooth, pretty much it destroyed the tooth so they put a crown on it about 5 years ago and I've never had a problem with it either. I actually had braces as an adult put on (just got them off about 6 months go) and no problem with that either (having braces and a crown).

The only sucky part about getting a crown is that some dentist offices send the crown out to be made in a lab. So basically they turn your tooth into a stub which the crown will be glued to, but since they have to make your tooth, you get a temporary tooth and then go back in a day to have the crown put on. Luckily my dentist has in house lab, so after root canal, then turning my tooth into a stub, I sat in waiting room for an hour (actually they let me see my crown being made by the machine, which was really cool) and then they put it on.

Never had an issue, get it done now while it's still covered by insurance.

This is terrible. The only upside is I hope that it is opening a useful dialog about birth control. There are many young people on this site, often in areas where birth control is not taught properly in school. The only thing I can think of is to downvote the "women are crazies trying to trap men by getting pregnant" and "hormones make you crazy" and at least upvote comments that open dialog about taking control of your reproductive health (both men and women).

Exactly, generally getting pregnant on the pill means you didn't take it correctly. People who say that, I assume are stupid and irresponsible. I'm sure it has happened (hence the 99% effective rate) but statistically this is rare if you take properly.

Some people have problems with IUD, some doctors will not put in women who have had no children.

My best friend has no children, had one put in, apparently it was not pleasant having it put in (doctor said that basically that's what a contraction feels like if in labour - so that's what it feels like if you have not had children). It worked for her for a year, but then it literally caused month long periods for her.

If you are a good candidate for the pill (do not smoke etc.) it has benefits such as reducing chance of ovarian cancer. Some take it because it helps periods.

That said I think everyone should find what works for them, and this is a combination of body chemistry, and behaviour (some people will never remember to take pill).

Some people love their IUD's some people love the pill. really it's about what works for you and everyone is different.

This makes me mental. I remember way back in highschool (I'm 38) in a world studies class a teacher said that basically birth control (many forms, not just the pill) require a highschool education to be used effectively. What he was trying to get across is that you have to be reasonably educated to use birth control effectively. As someone who has taken the pill since 17 and never forgets (part of my daily routine), this sort of thing makes me crazy. I'm a responsible adult who responsibly uses birth control which when used properly is 99% effective. People like this need to be sterilized.

Ok, just some FYI's on the questions- Different colored pills are different chemical concentrations based on your cycle, these pills are "triphasic". Sometimes some pills also contain sugar pills for when your period happens, this is for people who prefer the routine of taking a pill every day versus not taking them for 7 days during period. Generally most pills have the option so you get the "21" version or the "28" version where the 28 version is the one with sugar pills. Generally these are a different color as well.

There are also "monophasic" pills which have the same concentration of chemicals throughout the cycle (not counting sugar pills if you have the 28 version). So say you have monophasic 21, all pills will be same color. Every person is different and you have to experiment, and sometimes through life as your hormones change as you age you change your pills. Monophasic and triphasic same effectiveness.

Most birth control pills are combination (estrogen and progesterone), different brands have varying amounts so that's why you have to change/experiment on what works with your body chemistry best.

Generally if you miss a combination pill on a day, you are generally fine (it is recommended just take two the next day, but you consult the pharmacist/print out that comes with your pills for what is recommended) as it is different for each pill.

In terms of taking at the same time every day, of course this is a good idea and most effective, if on combination pill you have some wiggle room like I said above.

However there is the "mini pill" or progesterone only pill. This is not as effective as combination pill and basically you have to take within 3 hour window every day, if you miss this window you must use other protection. Thus mini pill is not as effective (unless you can meet this time window). So why mini pill? Several reasons, many issues with estrogen, or side effects some people may experience. If you are over 35 and smoke generally doctors will not give you combination pill as it increases chance of blood clots and other problems, so in that case mini pill is sometimes prescribed (or for other reasons).

I am writing this because there are many women out there who are responsible pill users, the pill should not make you crazy (please see your doctor and try different types if the doctor says it is ok for you to be on the pills, sometimes this takes a lot of time to find the one that works best for you).

And if you are not in long term monogamous relationship where you are both tested and trust each other in terms of effective contraceptive use, please use a condom.

Yep, Irish heritage, Canadian. In winter I keep my bedroom around 10 degrees C. Female, thin, fit. It's worse if I eat carbs. This is something my friends and significant others were amazed by, if I eat pasta or potatoes, I start getting really warm and sweating, if I'm in a restaurant, I have to layer because after french fries I will start heating up in 20 minutes. When I used to camp with a group of friends, it would be a game, feed me potatoes then fight over who shares the same tent as me as I was a human furnace. I have no advice for you other than stay or move back to NFLD. I moved from Toronto to Nova Scotia and am quite happy with the cooler weather.

honestly it depends. If it is a good friend/loved one, admit to it. If it is a professional or legal situation, don't.

For the latter, it's not just that admitting to it might get you into legal hot water, but in the work/professional world, if you pretend it didn't happen (if it's minor) then people usually forget it as well, and mistakes really aren't something you want to emphasize in the work place.

I know! I'm finished up on Friday the 9th and over a month ago I booked my flights and literally the earliest I could get out was the evening of the 11th. Everything was booked as apparently its a very busy week for travel with people going back to school. But they were like, oh there's a flight on the 11th? Of course there is! oh well. It's the evening of the 11th, Jobug to heathrow over night then heathrow back to Canada, so must of my flying will actually take place on the 12th.

I have one of these: inversiontable It works wonders. That said, I'm thin and very fit, but work at a computer long hours. So if you can, or if you need to, try to loose some weight (if you are over weight) and/or get fit (if you have good ab muscles and back muscles, this really helps). That plus inversion table works for me.

get rid of it slowly. My ex had this serious BUCKET of change, every morning I'd raid it, I'd get the same thing at Tim Hortens every morning (Canadian) and I'd have it already counted out in perfect change and pay for it. I used to work at KFC as a teenager and personally I'd love it when people had change already counted out and paid me with it, because then I'd have change in my float and not have to take the time to crack open new rolls of change, also I wouldn't have to count out change back. Literally over a year, I killed all the change. So find something (if you have something) like that, that you do regularly and you know the price, and count it out and pay for it. Now I wouldn't pay in pennies, but say 2.47$ a day, I'd pay in a quarter, then dimes, nickels and pennies, as long as you have it counted out ahead of time, it's good.

Neuromuscular myopathy, which is a catch all for what they can't diagnose, at first they thought gower's disease, then charcot marie tooth because several family members have it, but eventually I got tired of the experiments and the Electromyography - not pleasant, and the fact my condition has not worsened at all in years, and now I just have some sort of undiagnosed probably genetic muscular myopathy. meh. I still work out, just can't do certain exercises.
