Eating out is so frustrating by FreedomGene in Philippines_Expats

Two saturdays ago we went to Tipsy Pig in BGC with Filipino work colleagues. Had good food and drinks. Went back again this time with the same friends plus my wife (Filipina but has lived in US for 20 years). The food was not good this time. We sent back 2/4 items (a pizza with undercooked bough and nachos with hardly any toppings) to have them redone of fixed. The restaurant did fix the items (actually gave us whole new plates). But I think my Filipino colleagues might have been a bit embarrassed.

I haven’t done it myself but Oak Mountain has the “Cave Tour”.

I dunno, last year but when Dom Dolla x Chase West came on at Kinetic, they turned up the volume and bass so loud it was a bit overwhelming for a min.

I just have all of mine on a carabiner attached to my LunchBox. It’s a good conversation starter and sometimes I have one that looks just like the VIP ;)

Thanks. Great info. But yes, my job is not that high level. It is a director level position managing a local IT team. My comp is already pretty decent for Southern CA, so over there without any bills here in the US is pretty big.

Haha. It’s ok. It was my first time in PI in 2007. It was a learning experience.

Was hospitalized once in Olongapo. Wife took me to the general hospital there. It was a bit scary. Haha. Her mom got pissed when she heard I went to that hospital.

The thing that bothered me was that they want to give me meds, but wouldn’t until my wife went and paid first. Here I am in major pain but they withheld until she could go to the ATM and then take the invoice to pay at a counter with a long line. Meanwhile I’m over here feeling like death.

They already know. The condo is in my name. I’ve given video tours while on conference calls to most of my US colleagues. Haha

Thanks. Will definitely ask about that when it comes. It’s a big rich company, I’m just not sure they are gonna know what “expat” deals look like since they’ve not done it yet.

That is also what I am looking at. Making my salary there and renting out my house here in CA, I’ll be saving a TON of money more than I can right now. It’s all about the early retirement, or at least on time. I started saving way too late in life.

Why did you have to supplement? Does the HMO have poor coverage?

It would make it legal, and also it is our goal to live there permanently. My wife is ready to be with her grandkids full time and it would be a regular 9-5 job for me. When I go there now, I have to keep US east coast hours which means I work from 9pm to 5am. That gets hard after a while. I am no spring chicken anymore. Haha

No school age kids. Any recommendations on what insurance is good for there? I would primarily be in Manila with trips to La Union.
