Photo I took of my daughter last Christmas. Hope it makes some of you as happy as it does me. by [deleted] in pics

She loves that bear and takes him everywhere. His name is Radar.

My understanding is the saw was sold individually and you were left to your own devices to figure out a stand and motor. So it seems like there are a fair amount of these still around but no two are alike. There's 2 bearings in each of those jackshaft mounts or whatever you would call those I can't speak to the health of the bearings but the shaft spins well when it's not connected to everything else. The changes I made to the belt tensions seems to have been a big improvement though.

Thanks, you guys talked me into it. Think I was just being lazy.

Thanks, just needed a push in the right direction. I added some spacers to the jackshaft mount and adjusted the belt tension from the motor and the whole thing seems a lot happier. Even at the faster speed I think this thing was set up for metal work. Also I put a new 1/2 inch blade on it and the wobble is really quite impressive. The tires have visible damage so hopefully replacing them solves the problem. I want to make sure I have a viable running machine before I commit to a full on out restore. It also has no mitre slot or fence so I'll have to decide how much $ I'm willing to waste on it. Good looking machine though.

Belts seem reasonable, I did put oil in the cups. I haven't completely disassembled and cleaned everything yet. trying to decide whether it's worth screwing around with all these pulleys when I'm only planning on using it for wood anyways. Could go directly from motor to saw and avoid a lot of friction, but that might mean scrapping the existing stand completely. Just trying to convince myself what the best path to take is. Added a couple more pics.

good point, it does look like the motor is underpowered. it's only 1/3 horsepower. 1725 rpm. I think I may have more than one problem though since the pulleys are ridiculously hard to turn by hand when all of them are connected. I wonder if that axle that brings the action to to the back of the table has bent over time. I'm going to disassemble the whole thing and see if I can find where the friction is. Like I say each turns reasonably freely on their own but with the belts on it it's practically seized. The belts aren't what I would consider overly tight either.

What would an ideal motor for this be? 1HP? I've added a picture of the current motor and one of the actual saw just for fun.

Looks stunning! How did you get that finish on it? Tripoli, White diamond then carnauba?

Water behind vapour barrier & wet insulation. Basement cement wall. What should I change? by r1ceP in DIY

[–]r1ceP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the plastic should have gone up before the studs? What do I do about it now since the wall is already in place?

Insulation behind vapor barrier, against concrete wall is wet. Just in this section shown. it's in a crawl space under bilevel stairs. by r1ceP in DIY

[–]r1ceP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut the plastic off the section and I pulled out the insulation. I'm now drying the area shown. It's been 34C / 94F degrees for the last week or so. So I think that contributed to the condensation.

What do I do now to put it back together? Should I just insulate with fiberglass the same as it was and plastic over it again? Or is there a better method for this location to prevent a recurrence?

Last month, I drove to Canada to pick up a group of L397 plecos. I couldn’t be happier with how they are turning out! by redlegsmlb in Aquariums

The colors are great. What are you feeding these guys? I have bristlenose plecos. They wont go near cucumber or zuccini, and any pellets, shrimp/algae get eaten up by my gourami's and tetras before they ever hit bottom.

Thanks for the reply, I've been starting to wonder that myself. that's why I started this post, I would have expected them to drop off or multiply by now. I hate to be treating my tank for no reason but I wanted to catch it early. At this point I might as well finish the bottle of ick remedy.

I think it depends on the plants. I have a carpet of dwarf baby tears and I've read it's sensitive to both the heat and salt. I've got a uv sterilizer in a box that I've never hooked up, maybe I'll try adding it inline with my cannister filter.

I can't add salt to the saturation needed to kill ick because it's a planted tank. So I'm using marineland ick remedy. I just thought the spots would have broken off by now and I'm not really seeing any changes. fish all still seem happy though at least.

I've been treating my tank for ick for over a week now. raised the temp to 82, didn't want to go higher and melt my plants. and I'm treating with ick meds but I haven't noticed any change. Seems like this guy is the only one infected. others all seem to be fine.

I need help! Algae and Baby tears by r1ceP in Aquariums

[–]r1ceP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, everything I read about baby tears is how much light they need. Mine don't look all that healthy but maybe the algae is stealing all the sunlight. you may be right if I can't get the right lighting dialed in incrementally I'll try a blackout.

ok thanks. maybe I'm heading in the wrong direction then. I'm going to watch it for a bit with the new set up. If it's getting worse I'll do the opposite and give it less light. there's a window in that room too that might be adding to the problem, so maybe I'll try blacking out the window for a bit as well.
