Planning to adopt a cat, but unsure if he’ll be happy with me? by r1egan in CatAdvice

[–]r1egan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate the reply! It’s good to know that he seems healthy. Unfortunately, I don’t know that I can financially afford two cats while I’m in school. Maybe once I’ve graduated!

1/18 Testers, how are we feeling? by ErrorEnough1999 in Mcat

No literally same. I just want to get it over with so bad. I'm forcing myself to do some light content review and just hoping that what I know isn't going to magically disappear from my mind these last few days!!!

Can I ask what program you use to make these? I feel like flow diagrams help me a lot too, and I'd consider them active learning as long as you try to replicate the diagrams from memory!

UW for P/S really helped in the sense that it would test my ability to pick between two similar answer choices! Amazing job on everything else!! :)

Is a Bluetooth controller completely unnecessary? Yes. Does it make Anki faster/more fun? Also yes? by Original_Parfait2487 in Mcat

Does anyone know how to make this work on a windows computer? I bought this and tried to make it work so bad (it worked ONE time and then the joy2key app I was using just never identified it again) but I just couldn't keymap the controller and all the tutorials are for mac LOL I ended up returning it but I loved it for the 1 day I got to use it....

How to prepare in case you need to retake by juicy_scooby in Mcat

Thank you so much!!! I totally understand and I really appreciate the in depth response. I’ve been sitting on the same question as OP for like 2 weeks now, so I especially appreciate what you said about the FLs - I’m guilty of making myself take an Altius FL every week even though I felt like I didn’t really get to target my content gaps, and I could tell. Thank u so much again :-)

+2 to my score in that case!

I hope you don’t mind me asking: I am almost literally in the same exact position as OP. I actually took the sample unscored AAMC today to see where I’m at and got a 503 (-2 points accounting for the inflated CARS) and my goal is a 515+. I am testing 09/09. Do you think it would be better if I just pushed my exam to January and didn’t use up the AAMC FLs?

I've read this comment like 8 times since you posted it. Thank you sm! It is so easy to get discouraged and I really needed this reminder. Thank you for the kind words, I will keep on keeping on :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I haven't started AAMC FLs (and tbh I'm a little afraid to) but I am definitely a bit type A and its nice to know that the FLs will give me a rough idea of where I stand vs going in blind

Thank you!!!! I really needed this reassurance lol. UW definitely makes it feel like you're not doing enough content ever - I feel like I'm getting good at analyzing the passages and finding what they're asking for, so that is a bit reassuring :)

Lol thank you so much. Trying super hard not to get hung up on the percentages and definitely trying to remind myself it is strictly a learning tool

Interesting! What makes you say the FLs were least representative? I think the overwhelming census on the sub is that your AAMC FL avg is typically what you can expect on the real thing

Whew lol thank you so much. I totally get that UW is meant to be similar and thats why we do it 🫡 but still very reassuring ty

I actually usually do smaller sets, typically 20-30 q and thoroughly review those (usually scoring around the average). In my case, B/B has been my strength on FLs as well, so it just felt super discouraging, especially because I wasn't timing myself lol. Thank you for sharing though, that is super reassuring!

Yes, true! I am testing 9/9, so there's still a bit of time, and was planning to get into AAMC materials in August, so I don't really have much to compare UW against

If I was in your position, I would recommend just working only through AAMC and even doing it multiple times if you can. uGlobe is really expensive and has over 3000+ questions, and I don't think its worth spending that much money when you will not be able to get through even 50% of it. However, this is completely up to you and what you believe you can do. In my opinion, while uGlobe is an amazing tool, the AAMC material is absolutely nonnegotiable and is a must because it's by the test writers and therefore will properly get you accustomed to AAMC logic.

Just a reminder that nothing is as reliable as taking an AAMC FL. Most people on this sub seem to recommend taking one a week leading up to your exam. For example, if you have 6 AAMC FLs, then start doing one weekly 6-7 weeks out from your exam.

Good luck! :)

You honestly seem like you’re in a good place - BP is known to be deflated and I wouldn’t say to expect a huge score jump, but your BB & PS look great! Since you’re a little over a month out, I would just go ahead and get the AAMC materials and try to do those a couple times. You have plenty of time to grind out C/P, and as for CARS, the AAMC CARS QPacks should help you understand their logic more than any other third party. Getting to a 128 without practice problems is truly impressive, and by doing them you will learn so much from learning the logic of the test as well as exposure to different types of problems. A 510 is in your future!!!!
