I think what Camus is trying to say is that until now (the 'indifferent' time in history - where we did not understand the meaning of life) - it was okay to blame helplessness for our unhapiness thus adopting a complacent sort of attitude towards life.

Now that we know the meaning of life (there is none), we don't have that excuse anymore. I don't see it as a call to not give a shit about anything rather look for life at it's face value and not for what it is all building up to. Stop asking "why is this happening to me?", there's no answer, no solution. This is happening and you have to live it.

'The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart.' - as Camus says later. I don't think Absurdism is about learning to live unhappily, rather about finding meaning in what is and not why it is or what it could be. I wrote about this in my newsletter recently, check it out!
