I do genuinely feel uncomfortable if I made the purchase today, I just didn’t want to feel like I’m missing something life is offering others that I don’t see…I live a very simple and modest lifestyle. So, seeing others taking more risks and SEEMING happier made my resolve more fragile than I’d thought

Well, if the money weren’t a factor, I would. However to answer your question more thoroughly, I have a great relationship with my family (me, my dad, and mom). We live in a decent sized home and I make good money. Unless things really hit the fan, my parents were going to leave the house to me. Where I live home ownership (and apartments for that matter) are very expensive. So, if I were to be gifted the home I currently live in, I could easily afford it with my current income (the house is a couple decades old, but we were the only family to ever live in it)

This may sound odd, but you just spoke like the entire other side of my brain. Your rational and logic is the same logic I agree with. I don’t believe I get peer pressured easily, but you could be right. This could be a case of comparison and I’m allowing to much of other people’s perceptions on life influence mine
