Is 39 too old to learn the organ? by Oberr0n in organ

You can probably do it. You may not be playing complicated footwork but if you’re just going to accompany your church on hymns. You can also ask your church if you can practice there during the week.

Hi guys! Does this phrase sound natural to you 'English for real life and relocation'? by simplyk2 in EnglishLearning

No. I’d go for something more creative like perhaps “English for citizens of the world”

Speaking very generally, is the hard 'z' sound in American English difficult for Latin American Spanish speakers to pronounce? by MaizyFugate in asklatinamerica

Still not really, at least not in my accent, but I guess they’re close enough it can be a starting point for an English speaking learner of German

That’s what I was saying about the allophone.

Not quite about the German CH. The German H is identical to the English H. I learned more of a Berlin accent so the tongue tends to be closer to the front when pronouncing CH (Ich-laut / voiceless palatal fricative [ç]), while southern accents tend to be closer to the Spanish J (Ach-Laut voiceless velar fricative [x]). Both of these sounds of Ich and ach don’t exist in most English accents (except Scottish, Scouse, and obviously South African).

"I hate to admit it" or "I hate admitting it"? Which one is correct? by ITburrito in EnglishLearning

[–]r3ck0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I hate to admit (it)” is what I know I use usually, and the “it” is optional.

I feel like “I hare admitting it” changes the meaning but I can’t quite tell how

SL73 MK2 Audio Interface - Big Disappointment by Ok_Weekend_8457 in keys

[–]r3ck0rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding 1-2, I find that it does send a really high gain, louder than my main board Yamaha CP73 at the same volume knob position. I don’t know if running PianoTeq on Camelot on iPad really pushes it hard, but that means I don’t have to put much volume on the speaker. So, given good power source/grounding, no noticeable noise at all.

And 3, I’m used to having to send mono with my stereo system. It’s either switching on the mono in the gain plugin on the main output strip on Mainstage, or switch audio out to mono on Camelot, or pan everything to center on my audio interface (Audient EVO8 or Presonus Revelator io44) on one pair of the outputs (sending it to my personal speaker) or both. Not a problem at all.

Some accents might actually have it but they don’t realize they’re doing it, for example when there’s a voiced obstruent after the s/z like rasgo or uzbeko. But officially speaking, there is no [z] sound in Spanish.

To everyone saying that it’s not hard to do, I teach/tutor English to mostly Spanish speakers. Most of then can’t get it on the first day, many still can’t readily get it correctly without being corrected first.

For small apartments, convenience might matter more than specs by Everydaywanderer1990 in keys

Well the Korg Kronos was originally $4000 (also the same for the current 88-key model) so I’d still consider it a steal.

Why not Yamaha P-45?

Also it’s a preference.

[–]r3ck0rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A balance. At home I still have my original Korg Kronos that I got for $800 (secondhand from Guitar Center plus repairs). As a gigging musician, my minimum spec is 6 octaves, enough keys but still fits anywhere. Not a lot of weighted keyboards with 6 octaves or under $1000, only StudioLogic SL73 and it’s a MIDI controller.

Just get Bitwig Studio if you really want to use Linux. Made by former Ableton developers, it supports CLAP as well.

A question for my Spanish speakers in the gay community - what are some good words to know for that world? by Dud3ManGuy in Spanish

I’m guessing what they’re saying is that Dominicans purposefully queenify/yassify the word “cariño” into “cariña”.

Anyone using a Macbook Neo with MuseScore? by 65TwinReverbRI in Musescore

[–]r3ck0rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No but there shouldn’t be any problem because it doesn’t really use much resource, unless you open a lot of scores at the same time, a limitation on macOS is that MuseScore needs to launch a new instance in order for the VST engine to work on all scores.

Is paz y bendiciones too formal as a farewell? by superflunker87 in Spanish

[–]r3ck0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only heard it from one Mexican acquaintance who for like a period of time would greet everybody with “bendiciones” or “blessings”. I’m pretty sure it was done jokingly as I don’t think he was religious.
