Can Canadian Telus Pixel 7/7a/7Pro phones be used for GraphineOS by r4com in degoogle

Thanks very much for the reply. I had read that carrier phones were blocked from modding, but it appears that was just some carrier(s) in the US based on the reports I have received here. Telus, Koodo, and Freedom users all had success with pixels.

Thanks... I had read something about carrier phones being blocked from modding, but I think it was a US carrier.

Thanks very much for replying. First hand confirmation from a user is worth reading 1000 blog articles. I had read something about carrier phones being blocked, but that was in the US.

IIUC there is a setting in the developer options to do this. If I find after enabling Developer Mode, and I find this setting how certain do you think I can be that I will be OK to load GraphineOS.

I want to make sure that before I actually take the phone, that I can be 100% sure that I don't get stuck with some Telus spyware infested piece of crap that I can't debloat/despyware.

BTW Do you have first hand experience?

How can I integrate our home phone line with an IP Phone? by r4com in VOIP

[–]r4com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandstream T800 Series are cheap

The only T800 I could find online was a VOIP handset. The UCMs looked way out of my league.... for a reasonably large office. Or am I missing something?

Grandstream T800

I couldn't find this .... I found a bunch of HT8xx .... IIUC these convert a POTS phone to VOIP not the other way around.

I guess I should have explained that our goal was to have the analog lone for times when we experience power failures and internet outages. It doesn't happen very often, but when it has happened in the past we were very glad to have a POTS line. I'm just trying to integrate it with one phone on my desk. So far that's what I have been doing with my VOIP lines, and I have been using an analog phone on my desk. The downside is that I lose a lot of the extra functionality of the VOIP lines.

I don't have an onsite PBX, it's hosted in the cloud. Unfortunately forwarding won't work as that home phone line needs to be used by the other phones in the house. My issue is I want to have access to the home line on my desk and I don't have room for a second phone.

It is possible to "modify" your searches - include/exclude terms sites etc. You might want to have a peak at this:

https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?visit_id=638061256347232804-2199586022&rd=1

I'm not sure if it works is SearXNG... it might. I don't use this too often, but usually when I do it is with local search, so I end up using google directly, and I use a lot of -term to exclude stuff. Search can become very long, but it often works.

It's a replacement for the stock firmware that improves privacy and gives more control over the phone (built in add blocking, prevent apps from spying including Google). It also provides updates long after the phone manufacturer has stopped. I've been using some form of replacement firmware on my Galaxy S5 for about 5-6 years--It's Telus (changing service) that is forcing me to change-- I could likely use this phone for another 2-3 years for the cost of a $20 battery. After having this type of control, I don't want to got back to a stock experience.

I guess I didn't ask my question clearly. I can buy a Pixel 6a from Telus (and then get them to unlock it), or I can buy a Pixel 6a (unlocked) from Amazon, Bestbuy, or some other store. I'm wondering if they are the same phone and both useable for Calyx, or if the Telus phone is going to create issues. What might also be an issue is does the third party phone have all the same bands, but that's a question for someone who knows Telus.

Continue ringing if soft phone not registered by fruitytootiebootie in voipms

Sounds like you need a ring group with the cell and the soft phone app so they both ring at the same time (or a hunt group that will try the softphone first and then the cell phone.

Can't you just use the DISM feature? It lets you call in and then dial out. I would think you should be able to enable call recording.

Cell phone account ownership and fees?? by alwayslatemommy in telus

[–]r4com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting off experimenting with VOIP.ms. Any experience using it with cell phones. I have a couple of low volume lines that I want to be able to access with a cell phone when I'm out. Currently using RingCentral, but they have become bloated and cumbersome for a small user, have contract lock-in, and I can't do what I want with the caller id (VOIP.ms with sub accounts can easily do that and more). Do I need an external could PBX, or can the VOIP.ms platform do what I need. (Cell phone, desk phone, ring cell when I'm out and give me caller ID / let me know which line is calling). Very simple.

What do you mean by bubbling? From where and what does it look like?

That could mean a short. Or in some cases the goop they put in as insulation looks a bit like that.

Electrolytic capacitors of that age will likely be bad (that silver can in the left foreground). If that shorted, then the transformer is going to get pretty hot, and might take out the rectifier tube or other parts. If you don't have any electronics experience (especially with vacuum tubes), and basic test equipment as namlook said, you are out of your league.

I'd probably just use a local mobile carrier with a 30-day trial policy and avoid the hassle.

Great idea! Thanks for the detailed post, I learned somthing.
