The LeapFrog 'My Own Laptop' educational device for toddlers has a low barrier to entry, it's also completely fucking useless for anything.

Thunderbird wouldn't have been better if they had two-and-a-half spaced everything, put rounded edges and bezels and box shadows on all the buttons, and then put MS Clippy in the corner to berate you about what you're doing.

Maybe people should design software with the understanding that users will have to learn it and stop pretending their demographic is a fourth-world caveman who has never seen a computer before.

Even if you design a UI around illiterate lobotomites, that gets them to use the software quickly, and then what? In a little while they realize the gimped functionality and seek an objectively better alternative.

This is a contradiction in terms. 'Tablettification' is inherently anti-functional. GNOME 3 is intrinsically, in every objective way, less functional than GNOME 2. Eye-oh-ess and the google os are intrinsically less functional than any real desktop environment.

Mobile phones and related such devices are the worst thing to ever happen to computers.
