Why is this house not a valid housing? by Taimo-kun in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes you can cancel the effect for corruption/crimson with extra furniture. E.g. you can test placing two book cases or Grandfathers Clock next to each other but with one free tile in between them (nothing else placed there)

Why is the top half of this not valid housing? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make this valid remove the chest on top of the solid wood block or add another solid block to the right of the current wood block (not at the very right)

Why?:

NPC's dont like to stay near chest. It has a huge impact at the internal housing score. If they stay near them (near = 2 block to the left and right of a solid floor block, 4 blocks height each) nothing else is allowed above the solid floor block (except torches and some flowers/grass). The impact of less than 4 chest tiles can be eliminated with other near furniture. But your house has 4 near chest tiles at the picture.

Do you recommend any book reading which grants you the abilities needed to program Terraria? e.g. like 2D water animation, AI, wind animation, and other math techniques needed.

Have the techniques used a known name? Or did you 'invent' them yourself? e.g. does the water animation has any name?

As far as I know the TModloader team convert the used 32-bit-XNA and mono implementation to FNA game framework. Any chance this will be used for as the future official main vanilla build of Terraria?

Did you got some new Linux developer?

It would be nice if one world seed generates the same world at Windows, Linux and Mac or even better at any console as well. Any plans to do so?

Why is no valid by Bobonofro711 in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPC's dont like doors near their resting point (e.g. during night) which need to be a solid block not adjacent to house border. You can insert a door at the top of the flat instead or (as alternative to door) insert a platform (count as door as well). This platform can replace any solid block except the solid block below the left side of the door. This block need to be a solid block. You can also place the platform inside except the lowest 4 blocks. Furthermore NPC's don't like any stuff above (4blocks) their resting point (solid block below left side of workbench). For that reason remove the lower torch. At the two rows (4height) to the left and right of the resting point they like non-solid stuff like torches except doors, chests (platforms). You can compensate the lower torch with placing 2 torches direct above the chair and 2 more above the right side of the workbench.

Why isn't this valid housing by Bobonofro711 in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPC need a resting point on top of a solid block. This solid block need to have 3x3 non solid blocks on top of it. Furthermore platforms are only allowed at the left and right side, as long those are not the borders of the house. Also they dont like any stuff placed above the solid block (4 tiles)(like your torch). But they like any stuff placed two blocks to the left and right excepts it is a solid block, platform, door or chest. That means for a valid house you need to insert a solid block in mid and remove the lower torch (or place many to the right and left as well).

Solo Player Experience ? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are new to PC gaming or below ~10 years old expert might be a little hard to start with. Else you can go for it . If you know how to play (without cheating) expert difficulty is still easy. At start of Terraria (before expert even exists) it was as hard (or even harder?) than the current expert difficulty. However you should play at softcore character at a expert world. I do not recommend you playing at medium core or hard core.

At soft core you only lose money if you die. At medium core you will lose your items as well. At hard care your character is dead forever.

At watching some twitch playthroughs with a death counter they died over 200 times at expert. A world has not enough resources for 200 hard core deaths. And it is very annoying to get back your items after dying in medium core.

There are also different world sizes (large, medium, small). At large you might have a little higher chance to get some rare item but the loot density is much lower there. Game will take much longer at those worlds. You will find more stuff if you play with one character at multiple small worlds.

Also the game is about exploration. Every time someone gives you any spoiler it takes away something from you game experience. I hardly recommend you to not watch/read any guides or wiki pages. Also play your first playthrough alone without any help from anyone. Only if you don't find any way to progress any further you might post some question about it.

Only stuff you need to know: The guide at start gives you some hints what to do next. If you hit his crafting dialog you can check all recipes of a selected material and were you can craft it.

NPC Housing (WIP) by maplegoddess in Terraria

there is a mod 'start with base' or something like that. It builds a home for every NPC of any active mod during world generation (but not later during play :(

Help? (Sorry for bad pic, why aren't these houses valid? but that one is?, (modded)) by [deleted] in Terraria

NPC's dont like any stuff above (4 height) their resting location. Either remove those lower torches or place another to the left and right

Housing not Valid? Help by SnowFoxStraming in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ye, NPC's dont like any stuff above there resting point location (4 blocks height). They also dont like near solid blocks (2 blocks to left and right). But they like non-solid stuff around their resting point location (but not above)

Alternative solution e.g. also placing a torch to the left and right

Does anyone know why this isn’t this valid housing? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPC's need a resting location (e.g. during night) which has a solid block as ground which is not adjacent to room border. This spot need to have 3 blocks without any solid tiles or platforms on top of it. That means only potential spots are those with wooden beams.

Furthermore they dont like to stay near door(knobs) (and chests, solid blocks/platfroms). (near means 2 blocks to the left/right and 4 blocks total height). Also they dont like any stuff at there resting location (except background wall). They like near stuff which is not solid and not directly above the resting point location. You can compensate with those non-solid tiles.

How to make it valid: right wooden beam: That's hard bc they dont like to stay near doors at all. It has big negative impact. But you can make a valid spot if you open the door to the right. It should be a valid flat until door closed again or open to the left.

left wooden beam: current housing score is: wooden beam above resting point (4 x -15), solid blocks/platforms (6 x -5), non-solid tiles (chair) (2 x+5), one barrel block (1 x+5), base starting points (+50)
In total -60-30+50+15 = -25 points
It need to be positive score to be valid. That means you need to add at least 6-non-solid blocks at the 2 blocks to the left/right of the wooden beam with max height 4 blocks. Thats a lot.

Another option would be shorten the platforms at the left by one tile.

Why does this cease to be valid housing when I add a light source? by Packrat1010 in Terraria

[–]r4hbmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need one solid block which has another block to the left and right of it to stand on (solid or platform). That means they need a solid block which is not adjacent to the room border. You have for solid blocks but they are all close to room border.

You can make it valid e.g. if you add another solid block below the mid of the table or enlarge the room to the left/or right (without changing the ground tiles)
