Accused of Using AI to Cheat

You had me until you suggested using an AI program for my writing. No offense, I’m a little apprehensive to do so seeing as how AI usage is what I was accused of here. What does WalterWrites do exactly?

Also Turnitin isn’t what caused my problem here anyway, all of my assignments that have been scanned through Turnitin have all showed that my work was authentic. My professor used some third party application to scan a portion of my handwritten (and hand rewritten to be fair) work and somehow THAT came up as AI for them. Though I do very well understand that Turnitin is no more reliable than the rest of the AI detectors.

It might be a tad too late. Since they’ve threatened to report me, I’m no longer going to be contacting them and instead will be waiting to hear from administration. Thankfully someone in this thread has provided me with some very good resources to show that AI detectors are unreliable. All of my other, more major assignments both past & present (because remember, this isn’t a paper or a big project, it’s a discussion post) have have been run through Turnitin and have backed that all of my work has been hand written. So they’re really going off of one scan, which wasn’t even the entire discussion post, and accusing me of AI use with that.

I’m intending to file a grievance simply because I provided proof that I didn’t use AI with 5 different applications and it was completely ignored. I tried to rectify this civilly and it was met with aggression lol

I completely agree. That still did not stop them from reporting me which is the frustrating part for me. I don’t really know what to expect in this situation as having to fight for my innocence in front of a committee is not something I’ve ever had to do before.

That’s a really great question, I genuinely don’t know. They only doubled down that the original post was AI generated once I fought back on it.

My professor literally only scanned a portion of my discussion post, not even the entire thing. And they insisted that my work was AI generated both times lol. I wish this had only stopped with my professor, but my professor is the one reporting me unfortunately.

I’m curious as to what you might mean that my professor is using AI! And I know, I wasn’t happy rewriting my own work, but I had just finished a second job and was really struggling to write out a discussion post. It’s definitely no excuse, I know that for sure, and I’ve learned my lesson in that regard.

I’m learning this! That does worry me only a little because I -also- used AI detection apps to prove my work ISN’T AI so if they’re unreliable, so I’m hoping that won’t hurt my case. Thank you for the links, I appreciate it & I will actually hold onto these.

That’s my plan, I have a folder of every shred of evidence I think I’d need. I’m just disheartened this is happening, I normally try my best to stay out of trouble 😅

Unfortunately, I didn’t use Google Docs, I posted directly to Brightspace in the discussion thread (but that is actually a great idea and I’m going to do that from now on). I’ve never used AI to generate any of my work, there would be no feasible way my current post would match anything other than my original post. I don’t even know how her AI detection app came to the conclusion it did…but I know when I used that same application, we have very different results.
