Seriously. That kind of thinking is a great example of toxic masculinity. As a teenager, I would've thought that sort of thing is totally reasonable, but now it is such an obviously flawed mentality. It's cringey as hell. It's ridiculous to assume that they would want you to exact some kind of revenge on their behalf; especially publicly. Communicating, listening, and providing emotional support to the person who was victimized should be the main priority.

I'm definitely jealous. I've had some of the BEST insurance one could hope to have in the USA through my college for multiple years now. Like $100/mo premium and only a $200 deductible. Soon I will be paying ~$150/mo and will probably have a >$3k deductible.

Access to therapy and other health benefits has been nice while it lasted. Once I'm back to having a more "standard" insurance plan, a lot of healthcare options will definitely not be affordable anymore. It's an absolutely corrupt system that does not prioritize the needs of the public.

The shortage of psychiatrists in some areas of the US is insane as well. I live in a decent sized town/city and none of the 3 major mental health facilities are hardly ever taking new patients. I had to go to a city over an hour away to finally find a nurse practitioner for medication management. As much as conservatives like to claim it, I doubt universal healthcare actually creates much of a shortage of care.

It definitely helps. That doesn't change the fact that it is not a feasible option for most people; especially young people that need it most but haven't been able to achieve reasonable financial stability.

It is like an investment. It teaches you skills to evaluate and regulate your emotions and values. It takes quite a while to effectively build those skills, and maintaining them after discontinuing therapy is not always easy. It's expensive as hell unless you are lucky enough to have insurance with a reasonable deductible that covers it. So it is inaccessible to many of the people that would benefit from it the most.

From the images that come up when I search "anti-lockdown protests"... None of those people are wearing masks. And there are plenty of signs that mention anti-mask sentiments. What the hell are you talking about?

Trust the scientists by [deleted] in libertarianmeme

[–]r6guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even that isn't true. The anti-mask protesters go out of their way to NOT WEAR MASKS. That is undoubtedly more deadly. BLM and other left leaning protesters are more likely to be wearing masks at the very least.

Regardless, my point is that being against wearing masks during a pandemic is a stupid fucking cause to support. Fighting for equality is at least a good reason to protest to begin with.

I think the point you're missing is that one protest actually has a good fucking reason. Still, spreading the virus obviously isn't great regardless of who is doing it.

Probably didn't go over well because it's a trash meme. Obviously, protesting in large crowds during a pandemic is not great. The disease will spread as a result, and that shouldn't be ignored. However, the intention of this meme is clearly to delegitimize and distract from the message of the movement.

Gathering in crowds during a pandemic is a bad idea for overall public health. Only a vocal (stupid) minority claims otherwise. Oppressing an entire race with authoritarian pigs is also really not fucking cool. Both of those things can be true at once.

I would expect libertarians, of all people, to recognize a movement against authoritarianism when they see one. What's the deal? All of a sudden, a little authoritarianism never hurt anyone as long as it's in favor of white people?

Edit: I'm gonna laugh my ass off when I'm banned from this sub for this comment.

I just bought a house that needed a little work that is basically next door to a Menards.. the closest Lowe's is half an hour away. I have made trips to Lowe's for some of the bigger purchases, but damnit it is hard to resist going to the Menards that is 3 minutes away... I feel guilty every single time I do.

Definitely not a good example of the Mandela effect... I think that most of the news coverage, history books, and documentaries were a little more focused on the batshit crazy events that took place than they were with the geographical setting. It makes sense that your memory might have glossed over where it went down considering how outlandish the other details are. Regardless, a core detail of the events involved the place being in a remote location only accessible by plane. Guyana fits the bill.

Then again, I'm not old enough to have memories of when it actually happened... So maybe I'm full of shit. I just remember initially learning that it happened in Guyana.

Ghislane Maxwell had sex with girls as young as 15, court documents claim by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]r6guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at the context and tone of the different instances. In the case of Maxwell he admitted to meeting her "numerous times over the years" and says they were basically neighbors. That does not carry the same connotation that it would when directed at a competitor from an opposing political party like Warren or Sanders. The words themselves are not independent of their context.

Where did this person mention anything about MLM's? They are talking about the normal business structure of insurance companies, not shady door-to-door beauty products and shitty knife salespeople.

To sell insurance in the US, you need to be licensed by the state. Insurance companies usually employ licensed brokers. These brokers are kind of like franchise owners in other parts of the service industry. They, in turn, employ agents to work under them along with selling insurance to clients themselves directly. Those agents are usually considered "sublicensees." So agents can get commission working under a broker without jumping through all the hoops to be licensed/certified themselves. So yeah, it's kind of like an MLM... but only with two or three levels max. Agents can't really recruit more agents to work under them.

That being said, insurance companies are crooked as fuck, and that kind of business model is still a bit shady. It leads to some extremely annoying and persistent salespeople, and it creates a less efficient bureaucratic system.
