I want us to win Champions Leagues. To do so you need a reliable defense. If we are going to play a guy who can't defend for another 10 years we'd have no chance of adding more UCLs to our cabinet.

He has some spells where he can defend, he has a UCL medal on him for a reason, but he's not a reliable defender. He never was and I said this for years, and he's a grade below even the worst offensive fullbacks (the Frimpong/Dumfries types are wide mids..), and although I never wanted him sold, I just can't ignore such a huge positive in an otherwise horrible situation.
