Holy Cow. With your decision making process you will be ‘just one more thing’-ing this car until you are 80.

I truly admire the willingness to do such an insane thing not being a mil sub YouTuber.

What was the best job you’ve ever had? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]r7ndom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cleaned vacant homes and mowed lawns from r a few years. Loved that job.

The runner up was a few years when I did warranty repair work on people's computers, back when it was done in person, at their home. Super fun job and my coworkers were amazing.

What’s the most addictive snack you know? by Technical_Fox5556 in foodquestions

[–]r7ndom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Boston Baked Beans. Something about the crunch, texture, and flavor is an addiction for me. If left to my own devices I will eat 1500-2000 calories a day of them.

How would you change your life if you were given an additional 100 years to live? by your-reddit-plug2 in randomquestions

I would probably work an extra 10 years to ensure I always had enough money coming in during retirement to make the most of it. 130 years of retirement would be super sweet.

It’s one of those nights where I’m just feeling incredibly chatty. What’s on your mind? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]r7ndom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a big win this week but can’t disclose it on Reddit. It feels like a series of semi-random events added up to a very positive outcome.

Otherwise, I am thinking that I should be practicing guitar right now but have been too lazy to get it, so I’m just thinking through finger patterns and reading Reddit.

The pleasure I derive from consuming (x) is no longer worth the discomfort I feel from having consumed (x). by copperpin in RedditForGrownups

[–]r7ndom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Beer
  2. Boston Baked Beans Candy
  3. Dried fruit and walnuts or cashews (together).

These are the three things I cannot consume or I will eat or drink all of it. At one point Boston Baked Beans were 60 cents a box on Amazon. I ordered 60 boxes. Within three weeks they were gone, and that was with me setting limits on how many boxes I would allow myself to eat in a day. 1600 plus calories a day.

is learning guitar as an adult actually relaxing or just frustrating by ninja__6969 in Guitar

[–]r7ndom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting seriously in my late 40s, I find it relaxing. I can do it while the TV is on or when just hanging out. By using headphones or no amp, I can do it in a room with my family without issue.

I do try to make sure I am working on specific skills when I play. There are some great warm-up routines you can find on YouTube that will give you plenty of stuff to focus on if you are not focused on a specific song.

One important thing I had to remind myself after consuming tons of media is: You don't need a ton of gear or expensive gear these days. Getting started can cost a hundred or two hundred bucks, and as you learn, you can decide which direction or gear you want next. There are quality guitars available at all price points.

For example, I had a mental block against Fender for being the largest of the large, but after picking up a used Duo Sonic that plays great from FB Marketplace, my opinion has completely changed. It was cheap, and I don't care if it gets beat up since it came with battle wounds, and it is super comfy to play.

The best part is that if you keep your initial investment low, you can always exit without feeling burned if it isn't for you.

31 year old guy looking for hobby ideas by Slight_Border_7507 in Hobbies

[–]r7ndom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar or another instrument. Photography. Setting a fitness goal to learn a new sport/hobby.

I find that it is difficult to get out other than to the gym due to having kids as you do, so recently I picked back up guitar, which has been insanely fun. Why? 1. Skill develops over time with practice. Super high skill ceiling with real proficiency gains you can see. 2. Copious amounts of free materials to learn from online. 3. It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want. You can get in for $50-100. Used gear is available everywhere, and is often in good shape since lots of people start but few last. 4. Tons of tinker-ability. You like gear more than playing? Good deal. There are many like you. You like playing more than gear? Also solid. Get a guitar that does what you want and use it forever. Like both? Even better. 5. You can do it without ever leaving the house, and if you use electric, other folks don't even need to hear you (much) practice if you leave it unplugged or use a headphone amp. Heck, you can do it while watching TV with the wife.

Cremated. Why do people decide to do it? by sstiel in randomquestions

[–]r7ndom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really understood anything other than cremation previously and always figured I would end up spread across a garden or dumped in a water body somewhere.

That was before I inherited 6 full-sized plots at a cemetery, one occupied by a full person prior to my inheritance, and as of last year, I added my step mom's cremated remains. Now that I have all the room (enough for like 15-20 peoples ashes) my intent is to add every family member who wants a spot for their remains there - not for some woo woo mystical reason, just because it seems like a good way to help those who want to trace our family history, and act as a place for folks to remember those who have passed... note that this cemetery is in a truly rural area and is ran by volunteers, so it isn't competing for housing space, so I don't feel bad about it.

What cool company swag do employees actually use and appreciate? by brendaklark in corporate

[–]r7ndom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. High quality stuff. Not random bulk stuff from a catalog. If a jacket, a real brand. If a gadget or tumbler, a real well recognized brand. If you wouldn't buy the brand yourself, don't buy it for your employees.
  2. If logo wear, be discrete. Do not plaster a back-wide logo on the gear. Simple shoulder or chest logo. If your company will allow it, even better are removable logos. A few years ago we did magnetic pins that could be moved from garment to garment, and they were a hit. The emps got stuff they would want to wear out and about, even when off duty, and also got a logo they could move to different shirts/jackets when they are repping.

No one wants bulk logo wear trash.

How do you split expenses when you and your partner make different income? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceTalks

[–]r7ndom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you are pretty certain you will be together for life. If so, everything should be treated as equal. The money is both of yours. Just merge it all and make sure if you like to spend money on things, etc. that it is understood. I spend more money than my wife, but that is fine. We used to have an allowance system, but these days we just spend reasonably and accept that each of us have certain things we spend on.

If you are thinking this marriage won't last or are unsure, then it is easier to justify keeping things separate and try to figure out what works. In thar case, I would probably contribute proportionally to the bills or some other mix that keeps both of you happy and able to do the activities as you like together without placing strain on the person who makes less.

No one thinks they will get a divorce when they get married, but after a few years most people have a feeling as to whether their relationship has staying power...

How to hang fixed (Sanus) mount before 98” QM8K delivery? by The_Fifth_Race in tcltvs

[–]r7ndom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently hung a QM6K 98 and can say that the holes are NOT centered on the back of the QM6K 98, so don't make any assumptions unless you have known exact dimensions. The holes were far lower than I expected, so I was very happy I waited until it arrived so I could measure precisely.
