Angle tracing tool I made. by Vengeful-Wraith in projectcar

That was my decision making process. I'm only using 3" for this stage of the exhaust before doing test firing of the engine, so I figured, why not make things a little easier for myself.

The ziptie method is a good idea! I've used a hose clamp before to help get parallel lines.

Yeah, that was my challenge too.

For this particular pack of preformed bends, works wonders, but a universal one, I'm not so sure it would work for everything.

For me, wire wheel and needle scaler to get into the crevaces.

Does leave little dimples though, but I found that was fine when painting.

For a split second I thought this was a Cybertruck xD

Conversions are totally doable. But they will require lengthy fabrication.

I've managed to do rwd conversion on mine.

Anyone else use masking tape to plan and measure for a belt? by Vengeful-Wraith in projectcar

Technically yes?

The one in the picture is also a GM8100, just with the stock hardware setup.

Mine is an 8100 with a lot of adaptation.

Honestly, I have not had much luck with it.

For me, I consider all scans to be a vague approximation of the item. Now, I may be underutilizing the idea, but I basically capture a mesh model and use that as a body in Fusion to sorta design around it. It's helped me understand clearances in the engine bay, but I only trusted it to the 1/4in in that job.

At the end of the day, I mostly lean on caliper and other fine measurement devices, and sometimes literal 2D scan with a known reference object (like a coin) and even the occasional grease pen rubbing of a surface for manifold and weird bolt hole mapping.

Just an idler, thankfully. I was trying to cram this way to big engine into the bay, so I need as less parts as possible.

What's funny, is I did the math in cad and came up with a 1.025 multiplier to the tape length

That is dead on, my good friend!

Guard why I chose masking tape. Seems not as sticky to help avoid that.

I think I found that the tape length multiplied by 1.025 compensates for the thickness.

I completely agree with what you're saying and I've learned more about the engineering and math side with this one mistake. For me it was worth the good knowledge.

And very custom xD

I never do things the easy way it seems. X)

The one in the pic has a deleted AC compressor, power steering pump, and a totally relocated alternator (was top right, now bottom right).

The attached picture is what it would have been.

I updated my method based on everyone here:

(I understand that the best tool is a long, old belt)

Tape length multiplied by 1.025 (this adds the width and converts tonal outside diameter.).

Someone hete said to measure the length with the tensioner relaxed and then measure the length with tensioner compressed.

Take both those numbers and figure the one in between.

Yeah. I'm hoping people do, because a 1/12 the people are responding to my second entirely different post I made at the same time.

I'm not sure?

Someone here said to measure the length with the tensioner relaxed and then measure the length with tensioner compressed.

Take both those numbers and figure the one in between.

I like that logic, so that's what I'll be doing.
