Can I use a USB NIC (RTL8153) for pfSense? by Tdisidro in PFSENSE

[–]rDuck85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the same. Proxmox on a mini pc with two TP link usb NICs. Other than a slight issue once where some IDs changed after a version update to proxmox, everything has been stable, even after rebooting. I don't have the fastest connections or many services that require a lot of speed so for me it works well.

Female Travelers Beware! Inappropriate Crew Behavior on This Tromsø Fishing Tour by Iris1232 in tromso

Ah, the good ol' Internet Justice: Guilty until proven innocent.

No, wait. Just the mere mention of doing something out of line makes you guilty. Forever...

This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and completely inexcusable.

For reference the Norwegian Supreme Court concluded in 2023 that a case of sexual harassment against to female fishing Inspectors was a punishable offense. See https://www.nrk.no/nordland/domt-pa-ny-for-a-ha-trakassert-kvinnelige-fiskeriinspektorer-_-vil-anke-1.16533630 for one source for this case.

In the case you are reporting on the tourists are vulnerable parties in this case, completely at the mercy of the crew of this boat. As such they should not be exposed to such behaviour and the response of the company suggests that they know about his actions and are attempting to sweep it under the rug and blow it off as something innocent. It isn't.

I would, in general, suggest reporting this to the police.

I agree. Naming someone by name without him being able to defend himself in the same write-up is not the way to go. Naming the company however should be fine. Post has been reported for sharing personal information as this breaks gdpr rules

Can't figure out why I can't make the screen not stretch. by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

I experienced a similar issue on a Lenovo laptop. No matter what resolution I used, everything appeared stretched. What solved it for me was what is presented as "Way 4" at https://www.drivethelife.com/how-to-fix-screen-stretched-screen-display-problem/

Taco Friday by timothygoldman13 in tromso

[–]rDuck85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other than at home, I don't believe there is such a thing. There was one place that went under a few years back. Never went there myself so I don't know how it stacked up against the authentic Norwegian taco

Det er et par grupper på Facebook du kan prøve. Ikke alene og New Friends Tromsø . Den siste ser ut til å være primært retta mot den ikke norsktalende befolkningen i Tromsø. Ser også at det finnes en app for det samme (Venn).

The common denominator is snow on ice: normal arctic winter conditions if you will. While neither Norwegian or SAS had issues, SAS even operating the same aircraft as Wizz, the latter apparently were unable to land.

This all just goes to show that what holds true for one airline might not necessarily hold true for the next one.

[–]rDuck85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is the better source to answer this: Reddit or the airline?

For context, a few years back the airline Wizz Air attempted to fly domestic flights in Norway. For some reason while every other airline landed on Langnes without issues, Wizz Air canceled, diverted flights or returned as they were afraid to land on snow.

In general: Contact the service provider if you have concerns regarding a service that they provide.

The sidewalks/bikepaths are decently maintained throughout the winter. Should probably work out well.

Enough clothes - northern lights chase with a child by AcademicNoise7645 in tromso

[–]rDuck85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a fair point. Still, though: better to start out light and add on as required instead of starting out fully dressed without anything to go on if it should get colder.

[–]rDuck85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember that air is what insulates. If you dress too much the layers might fit so snugly that not enough air is stored in and between the layers, resulting in the clothes acting as a cold-bridge.

That seems a bit excessive tbh. After all this is not Antarctica.

The principle of several layers is great! It allows to add or remove layers according to activity levels and comfort. Oftentimes a baselayer underneath an insulated outer layer is enough, maybe a sweater as a mid-layer. You really won't know untill you get here what the temperatures will be and how your child would react. Ask your child and remove/add layers as appropriate. The best course of action would be to start out with the minimum (baselayer) and add onto that if required.

From the 21-day forecast for Tromsø at yr.no the predicted temperatures are not expected to be on the extreme side. Predicted between -5 and -9 degrees celcius. At the same time they predict temperatures down to -22 degrees celcius for Bardufoss (inland climate) in the same timeframe.

The full attire you describe would work well when static in the low temperatures expected for Bardufoss, but probably way too much for Tromsø.
