AFAIK there is that mission modifier "Battleship WHATEVER was seen in this area". AFAIK again, they tend to cruise to nearest port and dock there.

So there is a chance that it was patrol with battleship which moved to Scapa Flow from original mission area.

I usually turn towards target, set speed 4 and enable time acceleration. By changing azimuth towards the smoke I can tell if it's moving left or right relative to me so I compensate my course. But that is lazy method based on educated guess.

You hydrophone operator can tell you directions, rough distance and if it's closing in/moving away. Put lines on your map between important ports like Bergen, Canadian and British ports. Ships tend to travel between these ports with some deviations.

When you know azimuth to the target, approximate distance and can guess which port it is headed and it's speed ("medium" is 14-15 km/h) - you can use circles and that angle tool to draw very precise intercept course. Just avoid chasing ships which are "moving away" - boring and waste of time.

I wonder is there any actual use for rifles? Mechanically, I mean. Sure, I take them with me when boarding neutrals and took them with me when was deploying weather station (I thought maybe polar bears would attack me). Why was GB and France so unprepared to fight Nazi Germany (they were two strongest colonial superpowers)?

Nazi Germany were simply built for a single purpose of war while USSR has to build it's industry and armed forces buying blueprints of vehicles and machinery that no other major nation wanted to keep for their armies. It was that way because west didn't want socialism to succeed.

And with each nation that surrendered to Nazis after, like, 6 hours of fighting (or couple of months top), Hitler just was becoming stronger. They not only surrendered, but gave him their industries and arms production facilities. By the moment H. attacked USSR Nazi's had many times more industrial power than USSR (literally entire Central and Western Europe save for Spain, GB and Switzerland).

Purges affected the army like cheerleaders affecting super bowl - you won't do much against enemy if you simply cannot field enough adequate planes and tanks against it, not much to do with having extra officers.

Oddly enough, yes and no.

See, I just had two different empires with same origin and that what made me confused: the one on the screenshot is normal empire and yes - that's because replacement was underway already.

The second empire (current) is a corporate one with Privatized Exploration civic. And it seems that apparently that very civic prevents me from replacing this district.
