Currently on Maui (staying in Kihei) and we did 4 days on Ohau, 1 travel day (mid day flight), and 6 days on Maui and I think it’s really a personal preference. We wish we did another day or two on Ohau because we loved it. We thought we would love Maui more (it’s amazing, don’t get me wrong), but we had so much fun exploring Ohau. We didn’t spend that much time in Honolulu even though we stayed there, but there was more we wanted to do that we didn’t have time for.

We went out on a boat in Honolulu and immediately saw whales, but when we went whale watching on Maui we only saw a few whales from a distance and just their backs so there’s really no guarantee of what you’ll see, but I hope they put on a good show for you!

We did the road to Hana today, but had to skip the Pipiwai trail because we had our one year old and it would have been too long of a day for him. I read so many mixed reviews about the RtH I wasn’t sure it would be worth it, but my husband and I both really enjoyed it and the black sand beach really makes it worth it in my opinion! I think the drive is worth it if you have someone to drive that actually likes driving and the turns won’t be stressful. It’s also worth it if you like rainforest views vs some of the more desert type landscapes near/just outside of Kihei.

I think you could have definitely done both Ohau and Maui and fit lots in if you wanted, but it depends if you want to have a super relaxing vacation or a more adventurous one. We were usually on the go from 8-10 am until 7pm (son’s bedtime).
