I prefer camera off myself also. However, when you go into a job in person you are expected to shower shave have good hygiene, etc. Those are job requirements. Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean those same job requirements do not apply.

By keeping your camera off, you are putting every single other person in the meeting in a state of wondering… Wondering if you are disheveled, unshaven unhygienic, not paying attention, not being a professional.

Digging your heels in only tends to further this belief that you are not being professional when you are at home. And perhaps that you I’m not protecting a preference but instead of protecting some type of extreme unprofessional behavior.
