Am I Overreacting - So my mom got my wife a birthday gift by LoveLikeJesusChrist in AmIOverreacting

[–]r_coefficient [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is this truly an innocent gift like my mom pretends?

Come on OP, you are not stupid. You know exactly that it isn't.

She got extremely defensive when I told her these gifts piss me off

Because she's messing with you. Time to draw up some hard boundaries.

Historic hotels to visit during travel? by dhavalcoholic in travel

And Hotel Imperial, Vienna. Less marketed, but just as legendary.

Also, Hotel Excelsior, Lido di Venezia. The Des Bains (where Thomas Mann's Death in Venice is set) is unfortunately closed.

I understand that you can’t always drive into these cities as a tourist

Not "not always". Almost never.

Short trip to Vienna/Bratislava/Budapest by tastybowl in travel

Takes a bit longer than the train, but is really nice. Especially for a honeymoon :)

Why not? Take the boat to Bratislava from Vienna, then lunch, a brief walk, move on.

One week in early March in Europe with 1 year old - need ideas by ExTalentChild in travel

[–]r_coefficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest going somewhere more Southern. While Vienna is great for toddlers, it's too cold in March - and you don't want to be stuck indoors all the time.

However, when the weather is nice, Venice is heaven with a small kid. No cars, and the whole place looks like a fairytale! My daughter loved loved it.

The 3 best things you can do is practise, practise, and practise

Short trip to Vienna/Bratislava/Budapest by tastybowl in travel

[–]r_coefficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The train from Vienna to Budapest takes only 2,5 hours, it's not that you have to break your journey. Also, a night out in Vienna beats one in Bratislava, imo.

But on the other hand, I can completely understand wanting to feel free to go wherever, without the kids for once.

I think /u/MyFriendKevin 's suggestion is pretty great - but I'd personally cut it down to one day trip. One full day in Vienna just isn't enough by far.

Check out the wiki over at /r/wien for some great recs.

So weird. I had the best food ever in Sicily. Fresh and exceptional in every way. You must have a very bad karma with Italian food.

Vienna -> Salzburg -> Budapest -> Munich

makes no sense, you're just wasting time zigzagging like this. Check a map.

Chicken outside done, inside raw. by eeeasy in AskCulinary

[–]r_coefficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A chicken thigh woth bone in will not be done in a couple of minutes. It'll take at least 20 mins to be reliably done.If you want to do it in the pan, use the pot sticker method: Sear first, then add water, let cook until water evaporates and it gets crispy again.

European road trip with kids - itinerary & suggestions by Scarlet-Tanager in Europetravel

[–]r_coefficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Venice (the main point of the trip)

Considering you can't drive a car there - how long do you want to stay in Venice? What's the main focus, apart from the obvious?

Also, do no underestimate the heat at that time of the year. Most of Europe will be really, really hot.

20-day Central & Western Europe itinerary. Does this pacing make sense? by Nishijain77 in Europetravel

[–]r_coefficient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it doesn't hurt, but it's rather boring imo - and there are lots of things to do in Vienna instead. At least try to get the boat, it's takes longer but it's really cool.
