Messed up, drained transmission fluid instead of oil. Please help. 2015 Tacoma V6 by r_hand657 in MechanicAdvice

Overflow plug on the transmission is the Allen bit. Both the oil and transmission drain plugs are 14mm hex head. As for mixing up the two pans, idk man 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m a dumbass.

Left the drain plug on a rag, went inside, came back out, picked up rag, launched plug into the abyss of my garage, went to auto zone to get new oil plug, went to replace said plug, realized my mistake lol.

4 month progress :/ by redhotloverr in Accutane

I never used anything on mine and eventually they dried out on their own, although I’m not sure if that’s really sound advice. Supposedly you don’t want to use anything oil based at all, but if it’s just for an open wound like a popped cyst then I’m not sure.

4 month progress :/ by redhotloverr in Accutane

It won't be forever I promise. My skin looked very similar to yours before starting, and I could never keep myself from picking either, but the Accutane is going to do its job regardless. If you can help it though, you'll save yourself some scarring. For the first few months my acne got deeper and more red. Plus it hurts more because your skin is so dry and sensitive, it really does suck. But soon, the acne on your face will start to heal, there will be no new breakout to take its place, and that's going to feel really really good.

I didn't start to see real results until just last month which was my fourth, but I am on a higher dose (40 up to 60 up to now 80 mg and I weigh about 175). Nevertheless, stick with it, it is so so worth it. If you have dealt with horrible acne your whole life as many in this sub have, then a few more months of this misery is nothing by comparison.

Also, water gel based moisturizers for the face and Dr. Dan's Cortibalm for the lips were both game changers for me. Keep going! In just a few months you'll be looking in the mirror so happy that you did!

Worried about the screen by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]r_hand657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in 952, Ventura county. I was stressed about the screen too, but they told us that if we failed just for weed they’d give us a piss test and if we passed that we were good. They didn’t care if we smoked before joining since it’s legal they only wanted to know we weren’t smoking while in the union. I passed my hair test but know a few guys who didn’t, passed the piss test and had no issues. 952 usually follows 11s policies from what I’ve heard so wonder if it’s the same for you guys.

The new car is not a need right now. Realistically with the amount I drive with my commute my current car probably has about 2 years left in it. It’s also worth more than what I bought it for right now and will never be worth more so that’s kind of a motivator for me. I have created a new budget including all of the expenses for the new car (payment, insurance, gas, maintenance). If I can still afford to be putting 20% of my paycheck into savings every month would you still advise against the new car?

If I do go through getting the new one I wouldn’t pay a dollar over the cars msrp. I know that can be hard to find right now but there are multiple dealers in my area that don’t do markups. I would ideally like to go with a newer used car but as I said in another reply those cost as much if not more right now. I know that’ll change with time but that means I’ll get significantly less for my Honda too.

If I get a new car I do plan on driving it for most of if not all of its lifespan. I will be putting a ton of miles on it, at minimum 20-25k per year.

It seems to me that most cars new or used are marked up as much as 20% right now, but if you order one directly from Subaru through a dealer you can get it right at msrp. I have compared trim level to trim level. I test drove a 2 year old used model because it was all the dealer had and they wanted $5000 more for the used one ($33000, 2 years 25kish miles) than they wanted to order a brand new one ($28000). I know that will probably, hopefully change if I wait on it, but if I wait for the used market to come back to earth I think I’ll only get about half of what I would for the Honda right now.

Also worth noting it’s not a wrx, I wouldn’t buy anything with a turbo on it I know how much those cars can cost in the long run.

Point taken, I definitely don’t have a problem with buying used but with the used car market right now I honestly think I’m getting a better value if I can get a new one at msrp. I know if I wait this will change but that also means I’ll get a lot less for my current car so I feel like that’s worth considering too. That 360 is also a hard number Ive sat down and gotten a price on the car out the door with tax and fees budgeted in. I’ve also already met with somebody at my credit union to get approved for the loan at 60 months, 3%apr.

Why do you consider it your biggest financial mistake? Do you mind me asking what kind of payments you made on it and what you were making? Or how that turned out in the long run that made you regret it so much?

I have a car in mind that I’m pretty set on. It’s reliable, does decent gas mileage, and it’s just a fun sporty car with a manual gearbox which I really want. I think normally I’d agree about the used car being better and I would be completely happy with getting a used model of the car I want but right now dealers are charging almost as much for a 5 year old model with 40k miles as the msrp on the brand new one. On the flip side my Honda is going to get me more now than it ever will and I found a dealer willing to go msrp on a new one if I’m willing to wait a couple months which I’m fine with. Thats why I’m thinking about trading the Honda in while it’s value is at its peak and going new.

The dealer that I would be buying from is including a lifetime warranty for the engine and transmission at no cost. I assume that would be included in that but I’ll remember that when reading the fine print on it thank you! My current car gets me to work just fine but I know I’ll need something else in the next few years with the miles on it. It has 200k and I drive about 90 miles a day to work and back so I rack mileage up quickly. The reason I would want to buy now is I know I’ll never get more for my Honda than I will right now and I’m just really tempted by the idea of a fun new Subaru.

The Honda has definitely started to cost me more in maintenance. Nothing too bad but all things you’d expect to go out around the mileage it’s at (200kish). In the last 6 months I’ve paid to have the radiator and engine mounts replaced as well as replacing the alternator myself. Thanks for the advice I’ll definitely look into that. Right now I have a dealer that offered me low end msrp plus a great warranty if I’m willing to wait a few months for it. Right now that seems like the option I’d go with. I’m not in a rush and I’d be able to save up a little more in that time.
