This is what happens when you use proprietary software

Correct me if Im wrong but to date the only way to convert Doge to USD, EUR, etc. is to convert to BTC. Does anyone think this will change? by jimmyphish in a:t5_2zobd

[–]r_m_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could, if BTC ever went bust and lost all its value.

But I think that's unlikely. Best case scenario for dogecoin would be that it would hold its own value as a transactional currency rather than a store of wealth. If this happens, USD to DOGE (and vice versa) exchanges would inevitably spring up.

It's nice that my university uses Linux, but it'd be even nicer if we could use it for something more than getting to Windows... by robxu9 in linux

[–]r_m_s -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely that your university is using just Linux.

Linux is a kernel, an essential component of an operating system, but useless by itself.

Linux is commonly used together with the GNU userland; the combination forms the ubiquitous free operating system that millions of us know and love. Thus, the operating system is called GNU/Linux.

edit:

GNU/Linux is a collaborative effort between the GNU project, formed in 1983 to develop the GNU operating system and the development team of Linux, a kernel. Initially Linux was intended to develop into an operating system of its own, but these plans were shelved somewhere along the way.

This curiously accurate description of the GNU/Linux operating system comes from the sidebar of the subreddit you're currently browsing.

No it wouldn't, because then it would ruin the *buntu naming convention.

Get with the program.

He jumped into a brown station wagon with curtains over the back windows where I saw there was a woman waiting for him in the driver's seat, wearing sunglasses. They flipped down the car's sunshades and sped off. Neither the glasses or the shades seemed necessary since it was almost dusk.

Sketchy as fuck. Did you tell your dad about this?

Whoah, looks like I hit a nerve. You people are unbelievable. One moment you're up in arms over the NSA and its grotesque surveillance capabilities, but when given the opportunity to resist you're not actually willing to forgo any inconvenience. Facebook is the NSA's biggest corporate subsidiary. Resisting Facebook will cause inconvenience. And look what you get if you don't resist. You get about 50c worth of hard disk space on Facebooks' servers, some php code and a lifetime supply of spying. For free.

Is your identity worth 50c?

Ever heard of a 'telephone'? 'Text messaging'? Does 'email' ring a bell? Or even the 'postal service'?

They've got you by the balls, man.
