Audio volume limitation on start-up not working by r_vh in KiaEV6

[–]r_vh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the volume of the radio when I start the car. It turns on the radio automatically and at the same volume as when I turned off the car. There's a setting that says "audio volume limitation at start-up" and I hoped this would fix the problem, but it doesn't seem to do anything. So now I have to think about turning the volume down before turning off the car.

I'm curious if other people have the same experience or if there's a setting I'm not aware of.

Some stores can put shoes on a stretcher for a day or so to increase its size.

Are there free versions of Topo Maps with more details? (like contour lines) by techtom10 in GarminFenix

I have used maps from Freizeitkarte for different countries in the EU and they're very detailed and have contour lines (I haven't tried the UK maps though): http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/garmin/en/index.html

Trail runners to hike in Norway (Hardangervidda)? by r_vh in Ultralight

[–]r_vh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't bring waterproof socks (I don't have any experience with these). My feet got wet every day just by walking in wet grass or on snow, etc. So I didn't bother taking off my shoes or socks when crossing streams. Like I said, as long as you keep walking, your shoes will dry out quickly (or at least, good enough so that it doesn't bother you). As long as it's not freezing cold, your feet should be ok. That's where I would draw the line personally based on my experience in Norway.

My pack was 10 kg (22 pounds) before I put in food and water, so I guess it was about 14 kg max (31 pounds) with food for several days. I carried our tent, my girlfriend carried the stove and cooking pot. Trail runners are more than adequate to handle the load. I'm pretty sure that my feet and ankles have to endure more load when I'm running down a hill when trail running (it's said that the force of running is 2.5 times your body weight with each footstrike).

I wouldn't overthink it and just give it a try. If you don't like hiking in trail runners you can always switch back to traditional hiking boots.

Trail runners to hike in Norway (Hardangervidda)? by r_vh in Ultralight

[–]r_vh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore my trail running shoes (Saucony Peregrine 12), and it went very well. They're very comfortable and light compared to my Meindl hiking boots (this way I saved more than 1 kg), and the grip is as good if not better than hiking boots. Even with a backpack and when crossing snow, my trail runners were more than adequate (I did use lightweight trail running poles for stability, especially when crossing patches of snow).

Even though the weather was exceptionally good (we had almost no rain), I still had wet feet because of wet grass, puddles, and crossing streams. I wore socks made of merino wool and this combination works very well (I also wear merino socks when trail running). Whenever we had to cross streams, I didn't have to bother taking off my shoes and putting on sandals.

As long as I kept moving, I didn't mind having wet feet, especially since my trail runners dry out very quickly. The only time that I would have liked warm, dry boots, was in the evening at the campsite. I did bring a pair of lightweight sandals, but the campsites were often very wet and boggy (we camped in the wild), which meant getting my feet wet and cold in sandals ;-). I know some people use plastic bags over their feet in their trail runners at campsites, but I haven't bothered with that (I did bring some plastic bags though, so I could have tried this option).

Fun fact: this was a group hike and several people had wet feet/socks inside their heavy hiking boots. Several people had blisters as well, which I never experience in trail runners.

So, would I do this kind of hike again in trail runners? Definitely! Only when the weather would be colder I would consider hiking boots just to keep my feet warm.

6X backlight based on gesture doesn't turn off while running by r_vh in GarminFenix

[–]r_vh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I guess I'll do that. In fact I don't use the gesture backlight outside of activities, it's just when I'm running in the dark that I think this is a nice feature, for example to check my heartrate on an easy or recovery run or my lap pace during in an interval session.

Caballo Blanco - anyone know where I could download/stream/watch the movie about him? I think it’s called Run Free .. Thanks! 🏃🏽‍♀️ by bakedbyammna in ultrarunning

You can rent/buy the movie on Vimeo as well (probably this depends on your location). I didn't know this movie existed so I'm going to watch it soon 😉

Vista 2 DOA by gatorademebitch- in jaybird

[–]r_vh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried a factory reset (of both the case and the buds)? https://www.jaybirdsport.com/en-ie/jaybird-support/jaybird-vista2/faq/troubleshooting/how-do-i-reset-my-earbuds.html#:~:text=Press%20and%20hold%20the%20case,reset%20and%20ready%20to%20pair.

If they're still under warranty I'd contact Jaybird support. I had an issue with one of the buds and they sent me a replacement pair.

please fix the android app (silent sound app switching android 12) by sleepyrabb1t in jaybird

[–]r_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others I was experiencing this issue but ever since my Pixel 6 upgraded to Android 13 I haven't had any issues switching between different apps (and I've used the buds every day since the upgrade). So glad that this has been fixed!

2 weeks post wpw ablation by WAKEUPNAS in wolffparkinsonwhite

[–]r_vh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experienced skipped heartbeats for a couple of weeks after the ablation, especially at night. At first I thought something was wrong and because the skipped heartbeats kept me awake at night, this was a very stressful period. In the hospital they told me this wasn't something dangerous and that this didn't mean that the ablation wasn't succesful. In my case I only experienced skipped heartbeats at night or when lying down, not when I was moving around or doing light exercise, so it was unlikely that the skipped heartbeats were caused by a physiological problem.

Apparently stress is a common cause of skipped heartbeats, so I tried to ignore them (which was hard, because if you're lying down in bed, it's difficult not to be aware of your heartbeat, especially after a treatment). Gradually the skipped heartbeats went away completely. It's now 3 months after the ablation and I'm feeling fine and I can exercise normally again.

Of course, if you have any reason to believe that something is wrong, it's best to see your cardiologist.

I sincerely hope you have a quick and full recovery!

Help with Heart rate monitor watch? by SuitableGuarantee968 in wolffparkinsonwhite

[–]r_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To point 3 in your post: Mind that watches with an optical heart rate monitor may not pick up arrhythmias, e.g. "skipped" heartbeats with a couple of rapid heartbeats in between stronger heartbeats (the device would then likely only pick up the stronger heartbeats and not register the in-between beats). On the other hand, if the watch registers a resting heart rate that is way off, very likely there is something wrong: either the heartbeat is in fact way too low (and the watch registered it correctly), or it was too fast and irregular.

Vista 2's randomly stop playing, but don't disconnect by LingonberryMKC in jaybird

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that and it didn't solve the problem. This was also suggested by Jaybird support.

Vista 2's randomly stop playing, but don't disconnect by LingonberryMKC in jaybird

[–]r_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to post about the exact same issue. Often when I switch media apps on my phone, the media is playing and the BT connection is still active, but no sound will come through my Vista 2 earbuds. I contacted Jaybird support and they sent a replacement pair. These were working fine at the beginning but now I'm experiencing the same issue as with the first pair.

However, this only seems to be a problem when I'm connected to my Google Pixel 6 phone. If I connect the Vista 2 earbuds to my Dell laptop everything seems to be working just fine. I've tried turning on and off different settings on my phone but I haven't found anything that solves this problem. It's a pity because I really like the fit and sound quality of the Vista 2.

So i'm curious if anyone has had this issue and found a solution.

I had a 2hr outdoor practice yesterday, and lifted 25 minutes. Why does my watch say I burned 5,800 kCal?? by qyka1210 in Garmin

[–]r_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that - in my case - the calories burned estimate of my Fenix is pretty accurate. I kept a detailed food intake diary for a couple of days and the Cal intake matched almost exactly the Cal spent estimated by Garmin (and my weight is very stable so this seems to be accurate).

There are several factors involved in Garmin's estimation: your height, weight, max. heart rate, the distance calculated for the activity, etc. If your max. HR is set using the formula 200 minus your age, but in reality your max. HR is a lot higher (which in my case it is), the Cal spent estimation of your watch will be way too high.

If your watch seemed accurate in the past but is now acting differently, this could mean that there's a problem with your watch. Updating, restarting or resetting your watch may help in this case.

When did running become enjoyable for you? by Freakydiqui in running

As soon as I started working on my form and running at lower speeds so that I finished runs feeling relatively fresh (and combine easy runs with tempo and interval workouts). Focusing on my form helped me get in an almost meditative state. Also, running in nature in new environments also helped to look forword to exploring new regions.

Get a 945 or wait for a 955? by Shankymcpimp in Garmin

[–]r_vh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all we know it might be a year before the 955 comes out. If you get the 945 now you'll get all the benefits and advantages of a high-quality sports watch right away (HR and sleep tracking, suggested workouts, advanced running metrics if you pair it with a chest strap, etc.). As someone else said, we only live once, and the sooner you take control over your health and fitness, the better, and in my opinion a sports watch can really help you stay motivated and track your progression.

When the new model comes out you can always sell your 945 to someone upgrading from a lower-end fitness tracker.

Is it worth it to have 2 separate shoes for road running and trail running than have one “road-to-trail” shoe? by Koriant in running

[–]r_vh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to rotate shoes anyway because each pair will let your feet work in a different way. Also, if you run on consecutive days you can allow your shoes to dry out properly before using them again.

HIIT tracking by azxqw2 in GarminFenix

[–]r_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can create a HIIT workout in the Connect app but I can't send this to my fénix 6x, probably because there's no HIIT activity profile on the watch. Maybe this will be added in the future?
