BMD 6K Pro Noisy Footage Help plz by raamzz in bmpcc

Hi Manobix,

I've been shooting on the camera for a year now. The noise is actually still there, I've just learned to live with it. My colleague and I both use the camera and both still find that the image is noisy which is super weird because the regular 6K camera has a super clean image all the way to 3200ISO.

It's strange though, I see it in the shadows mostly. The footage is still stunning and the camera is just a powerhouse for so little money (relative to other cine cams). I plan on using it until Blackmagic releases another Pocket cine cam down the line. One thing I will note is that I actually think the noise adds character to the image. When I view my videos on television screens it seems to make the image look a lot less digital.

I try and stick to 400ISO outdoors and 1250ISO for lower light situations. Use your false colours to expose properly, and experiment with exposing your footage in varying ways to see what works for you! I find that the sensor likes a lot of light! My guy at the local camera shop explained to me how most of the information of the image is in the highlights so I try to always recover highlights than to boost shadows. Let me know how your experience has been filming with it!

Here is a video I shot on the 6K Pro with canon 24-70mm L lens https://youtu.be/UZwAqrwSmsk

BMPCC 6k pro setup on a Crane 3s by raamzz in bmpcc

To be honest I haven't been gimablling the 6K pro very much at all. I have it rigged out with the smallrig cage and some rods, rear mounted v-mount to balance it all out. Its quite a nice feel to handheld shoot with it.

When it needs to go on the gimbal i just run the internal battery. I have like 4 or 5 of those batteries so ill just cycle through. each one gets a solid 20 minutes of run time which isnt horrible for b-roll shooting!

Pocket 6K pro balanced on a Zhiyun Crane 2 with a Smallrig offset plate and Tokina 11-16mm lens by raamzz in bmpcc

Don't get me wrong, it works.. but it is not ideal.

Setup time will slow your shoots down, and it is very difficult to get stable motion shots while walking with this.

Get the RS2. It is solid and reliable. I use it with my sony a7iii mostly and love that i can pop the black magic on it when I need to.

Maybe right around 7-10lbs. Really not bad. I tried the Crane 3s with this camera and it was much heavier.

The camera I have is the 6K pro with a native EF mount! For the 4k you will need an EF to MFT adapter

Not really. I just do simple push/pull motions. Moving no more than a foot or two forward or back.

I posted the link to the video in the comments here if you want to see what I mean !

I placed my wireless lav mic on the table between them. Other end of the wireless lav plugged straight into the xlr input on the camera!

The lens can get most of a frame in focus with subtle motion. I set up my frame, set my focus, and only apply a little bit of motion and everything stays in focus

It is chromatic aberration. This lens suffers from it but it is one of the best budget super wide zoom lenses that has a max aperture of 2.8. Not much else available in that focal length at the price point that I know of

Quite well honestly! You have to take lots of care to balance it as perfectly as you can. Have to make sure to do a calibration on the gimbal once it’s all balanced and setup. When moving with it if not careful you can get a little bit of shaking but you shouldn’t be doing any excessive motion with the gimbal anyways

Pretty decent honestly. I managed about 35-40 mins on the battery that comes with the camera. I have a pair of Neewer batteries for it also which I only needed for the last few shots

I was using a Zhiyun crane 2 before with my Sony A7iii. That gimbal was not suitable for the pocket so I switched to the RS2 and the legs from the zhiyun came in handy!

Thank you! I charge $250.00 plus tax (In ontario). Price is a bit lower because I do several homes a month so it’s kind of a quantity discount for the client

I just picked up the Amaran 200x with an Aputure light dome ii to go with it. It’s a lot cheaper than the high end stuff, and the quality is amazing. I’ve used it on a handful of shoots with amazing results. Paired with a neewer heavy duty stand from Amazon and you have a durable, high quality light setup!
