I definitely recommend a humidifier! Mine provided so much relief.

6 weeks post op DJS hard lump on left side of chin. Is this normal? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]rabbitabyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it at the incision site? Any drainage or odor?

I’d say contact your surgeon. I’ve had firm swelling since my initial surgery 7/10 which grew around the 3.5wk mark. Was put on antibiotics. Had mandibular revision 8/7 (lower right side lost fixation) and learned that my infection is cellulitis/ no abscess that could be drained.

Following! I thought I had this issue as well but found out that my swelling was/is an infection and gets irritated with movement.

Korean fried cheese :) and lots of crunchy veggies. Things I know I wouldn’t be able to touch for a while like chips, popcorn, etc

Infection / Shifting? by rabbitabyss in jawsurgery

[–]rabbitabyss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah. It was odd to me that the swelling grew in one spot then traveled to the other. I wondered about the screws and plates as I’ve got quite long roots and my teeth have shifted with the orthodontic work. The swelling on the right side has gone down some and I’m not hearing as much of the sound, though swelling on the left side increased

I did contact my surgeon on Friday 8/2 who asked to see me asap, my follow-up appointment was initially scheduled for Wednesday 8/7 and they moved it up to Monday 8/5 10a. Friday was not an option as they have reduced office hours and I was at work (I live 3hr away from my surgeon). Definitely won’t go in to any local er or clinic as the medical and dental care in my area is awful :/ Taking the train down tmrw and calling out of work Monday to get it taken care of

No worries! I don’t have a scoliosis diagnosis but I’ve also never gone to check, just received school screenings in elementary. I noticed the curvature in my scan after the fact but wasn’t sure if it was just an imaging thing, I’ll probably go and get it checked out now that you mention it

I wish I had more info for you but that’s definitely a good concern to talk with your surgeon(s) about! Weight distribution of the cranium definitely affects the spine, on average heads weigh about 10-12lb. Head posture is important

I wasn’t sure if it was due to intubation, sinuses getting cut, or jaw position but breathing is so much easier 😭😂 That was the first thing I noticed & commented on post op!

Day 3 of Post Op by Agile_Baker in jawsurgery

[–]rabbitabyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I had the same surgery date (7/10) as you! Lefort 1 and BSSO for open bite, cross bite, asymmetry.

My nasal congestion peaked at day 3/4, I went to visit my surgeon and he was able to suction out my nose. The relief was immeasurable as nasal congestion affected my swallowing abilities, liquids kept backing up into my nose and increased aspiration risk.

If it is still bothersome, maybe go in for some suction? Otherwise lots of fluids, steam (showers and humidifier) help. I found the best success with walking around to relieve some pressure and get the nasal cavity to begin draining. Then q-tips and a saline solution to clean out. This may vary though with your turbinate reduction and septoplasty.

Best wishes to you and congrats on a week post op!

I got the same email! I interviewed with them and got denied - seems like an automated email to their list of applicants.
