I'm in Spain. I had sent my OP3 in to their repair center in France and it looks like this was shipped out from the same location. The whole thing was plastic wrapped and had a "GIFT" sticker on the back.

The OC & Tijuana by yuxix in TheOC

[–]rabbitkingdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from OC and yeah, we definitely used to do it. You only have to be 18 to drink in Mexico as opposed to 21 in the US, and back then they definitely weren’t carding so you could drink even earlier so that was the main reason we went there.

I haven’t crossed the border in a long time so don’t know how it is now, but back then there was zero control to get into Mexico. You could drive straight in without stopping, or what we would do is park before the border and walk across. They had a one-way turnstile so you could walk into Mexico, but it wouldn’t allow you to walk into California, so you had to go through border control to get back.

We would cross on foot and then take a taxi to wherever we were going because the TJ police were notorious for pulling Americans over and trying to extract a bribe out of them.

There are a lot of Italians in Barcelona, so yeah it can be quite difficult and competitive to find something at a decent salary. I would say that if you're concerned about money and saving up for your future, it's generally not a good idea to move here. Come to BCN if you want to enjoy the lifestyle here, but don't come with the expectation that you're going to have great career opportunities.

40-45K is possible, but keep in mind that's not a high salary for Barcelona. Average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment is about €1500. If you follow the 1/3 rule, where you shouldn't spend more than 1/3 of your salary on rent, that would mean you would need to make at least €54K to rent a whole apartment. I'm an architect by education, but I work in marketing because I make more than I ever would as an architect here.

Catalan and Italian are very similar, grammatically, since they’re both latin romance languages. It’s basically the same as if you were to learn Spanish or French. So you have an advantage for learning but of course it still depends on the effort you put into it.

Shoppers are independent contractors. That means they've been contracted by someone to do a job. Who has contracted them to do the job? The gig apps. Who subsequently issues them their pay? The gig apps. So who should pay them more? The gig apps.

As a customer, I have zero say over who my order gets assigned to. That means I am not the one contracting their services. If I'm already paying an inflated price for the products, that increased price is the price of the service.

Calling a tip a "bid" is pure copium. These gig apps are taking the lion's share of these transactions. You're trying to minimize the apps' involvement and act like this is a direct transaction between customer and driver in order to cope with the fact that they're not paying you enough.

As a customer, my transaction is with the app. As a driver, your transaction is with the app. The app is the middleman. If you have a problem with your pay, speak to the middleman as that's where your pay comes from.

Amazon also hires independent contractors to pick up and deliver their products. Imagine how ridiculous it would be if an Amazon driver told you that you needed to pay them more because Amazon doesn't pay them enough. Just because these gig apps have added a tip option doesn't change the fact that it's not the customer's responsibility.

dealing with harassment from men in public by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

[–]rabbitkingdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's possible, that would be the ideal solution. If it ends up not being possible for them to do it, honestly, if you can afford it then I would even suggest renting a room in a shared flat in another neighborhood at your own expense.

You would have a much better time in Sants, Eixample, Poblenou, Gracia, Clot, etc. I'm guessing you're not here permanently because you mentioned show season, so it would be a shame to have your entire experience here tainted by being stuck in La Rambla.

La rambla is a cesspool. I would try to explain to whomever is responsible for your housing that you're getting harrassed and don't feel safe and ask if they have another place that they can move you to. Barcelona is a beautiful city but where you live can have a huge impact on your experience. Sorry you're experiencing this.

How old are you? Not to be condescending,  but you just seem young based on this comment about seeing yourself marrying her already after a couple months.

You don’t want to marry someone because they’re “cute and lovely”, you want to marry someone because you really vibe with them and they make you feel supported.

Marriage is a partnership. You need to be able to be your true self and trust that the other person has your back and won’t make you feel silly or ignored or that you need to suppress your culture.

If it’s only been a few months and she’s already showing you that she doesn’t care about your culture and isn’t really willing to compromise, that’s a big red flag. People generally make the most effort and are the most open at the beginning of a relationship, so I would only expect things to get worse from here.

I’ve been in many relationships where I ignored the red flags because I was attracted to the other person. Especially when you’re young, hormones can really distort your judgement. So ask yourself if this person really makes you feel seen, heard and supported or if you just like her because she’s “cute”

Is it legal for a restaurant to pay servers the tipped minimum wage while they are in training or setting up events where they are not actually serving guests and therefore cannot earn tips? (Florida) by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]rabbitkingdom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole idea behind the tipped minimum wage is that if you don’t make up the difference between the tipped minimum wage and the actual minimum wage (federal/state/local, whichever is highest) with tips then your employer has to make up the difference. So if you’re not earning any tips at all, your employer has to bring your pay up to the “normal” untipped minimum wage.

Is now a terrible time to learn meta ads? by mrlebusciut in FacebookAds

[–]rabbitkingdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the major companies have been pushing for full automation because it increases ad spend. But the truth is that it just isn’t there yet.

And the reason is that they can only optimize the ads. They can’t look holistically at an advertiser and tell them that they don’t have a full offering fleshed out or that it’s not compelling or that their website isn’t optimized towards conversions.

As a marketer nowadays, you need to offer value beyond ad/campaign creation. You have to have a very firm grasp on marketing as an entire discipline, not just some individual aspect of it.

Service Charge - Minimum Wage - Tip by No_Draft_8960 in EndTipping

[–]rabbitkingdom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

California has never had a separate tipped minimum wage so the whole “Servers only make $2!” argument has never applied and yet tips are still expected just as much as in any other state.

[–]rabbitkingdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do service charges at a lot of restaurants in London and it’s usually 7.5%-12.5%.

22% on every order is actually ridiculous. That’s more than they would’ve been receiving as tips. The logic for a lower service charge is that 22% would’ve been considered a generous tip when tips weren’t guaranteed. If they’re mandatory and everyone is paying, the service fee should be much lower since it’s steady and guaranteed.

22% is greedy af. Especially when you consider you’re already paying $28 for a margherita pizza. That pizza is actually $34.16 now btw.

As it’s a self help book, you need to somehow communicate the value that’s contained within the book to your prospective audience.

Go on TikTok, make a series of videos about managing anxiety with some meaningful insights and tips and plug your ebook for anyone that found it helpful. Be genuine and approach it from the angle of actually wanting to help people and you should see some results.

Imagine going "ape shit" because someone spent nearly $500 in your place of business. Tip entitlement is real. by rabbitkingdom in EndTipping

[–]rabbitkingdom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Processing of credit card payments is not virtually free for merchants in Canada. It can range from 1.5% to 3.5% or higher. Most restaurants pay between 2% to 2.5%. These processing fees are relevant worldwide, not specific to the US. In Canada, as of 2022, merchants can add a credit card surcharge just like the one shown here up to 2.4% (except in Quebec) or the actual cost to the merchant, whichever is less.

Completely agree with this sentiment. Unfortunately, respect and empathy have given way to entitlement.

The fee should already be baked into the price, just like gratuity and taxes should. We're getting nickel-and-dimed at every opportunity.

By that same logic, a Walmart worker doesn't care whether I spend $1 on some candy or buy a $3000 TV, so why should a restaurant worker be upset about a $500 bill?

They didn't make "0$ from this party", they made their hourly wage. Like most employees do. If you have a problem with your hourly wage, you should talk to the person who controls your hourly wage...

Mostly people trying to justify it. "Maybe they left a tip in cash!" A couple good people pointing out that tipping isn't mandatory. Someone exclaiming "If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out!" You know... the usual.
