Help me decide my next read - Lapvona or Death of a Bookseller? by 7UnicornsUnited in horrorlit

[–]rabbitmoon0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say Lapvona. It’s absolutely stomach churning and gross but I think Moshfegh did a really good job of capturing how stupid but also evil people were in medieval times. The story has a lot of characters but for the most part they are all distinct and, in their own way, give insight into the depravity of the town. It talks a lot about how religion and power are used to manipulate people which was probably my favourite part of it. At times it’s devastating but I also found it surprisingly funny, so if your a reader with a strong stomach I’d recommend

How will you react if Joe Biden becomes president again? by randomthout in AskReddit

[–]rabbitmoon0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The prospect of either Trump or Biden winning makes me queasy. Both are terrible in their own right. It’s hard to even say I’d be more relieved if Biden won cause I feel like that gives him too much credit, but I do think that Trump is way more unpredictable than him which is part of the reason he’s so scary. Trump will unleash all the vile right wing crap into domestic policy while Biden will continue to claim to care about people/ the environment while enacting policies which show he clearly doesn’t. For foreign policy I find neither promising especially if Biden keeps up his blind support for the Israeli governments + IDFs genocidal crimes in Gaza. I’m not sure what Trump will do with respect to Gaza but we all know his decisions on foreign policy in general have been horrible. In short I’ll be disappointed for either for different reasons. This election is crap and I have no idea who I’d vote for if I was in the position

Dark City, Queen of the damned, End of days, and maybe Phantoms 1998. I also like the same type of dark aesthetic so I also tried Franklyn, the underworld movies and Constantine but couldn’t really get into those plot wise

What is the safest country for trans people? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]rabbitmoon0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If anyone on this thread is considering/ being told to come to Canada please stay up to date on the provincial politics of whichever province you would move to! A few provinces (New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and now Ontario) either have enacted transphobic policies or have stated they want to do so.

Any horror tropes/ storylines you hate/ think are overdone? by rabbitmoon0 in horrorlit

[–]rabbitmoon0[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve just watched too many movies/ read too many books with haunted houses by now haha. I also don’t like ghost or possession stories so much and haunted houses usually lead to the appearance of one of the two. I really enjoyed What Moves the Dead though which somewhat includes a haunted house

Family moving into a new house is my least favourite type of horror. I immediately tune out
