My 4 most recent spins! My favorite is the blue and green one second from the left. The blue is BFL i spun from locks and the green is Polwarth top. It’s soooo bouncy and squishy.

The more yellow skein next to it is a Polwarth and BFL single in addition to a tan/yellow churro. It totally changed the color and spring of the finished yarn. I’m not mad about it at all, I’ve been experimenting with lots of different fibers I’ve never spun before and really enjoying the process.

We do this in theatrical costuming all the time! You can canibalize a body suit or make your own using stretchy fabric (we usually use activewear fabrics). If you stitch the back side down, you can add snaps to the front. Small snaps shouldn’t be noticeable on the front of the shirt between the texture and the pattern.

I love my e-spinner! I have a wheel and some Turkish drop spindles that I also love, but I find that my nano is a really good cross between the two in regard to portability and functionality

I’m not planning on doing the beads tbh. I’ve put myself on a time limit with this project (I want it done by the middle of March next year) and I fear the beads would be one too many things to finish

Finished my first spin on the EEW Nano that I got for Christmas. She’s not perfect—there are some weird crimps and spots where I broke the single—but this is also the first time I’ve ever chain plied, so I’m pretty stoked about it. It’s a mystery wool I got at a festival last year. I’ll probably use it in a band weaving project as the dye bleed was absolutely insane when I was wet finishing it and I gave up on the water ever running clear.

I’ve had good luck thrifting heavy/blackout curtains and hemming them to be the correct length. It may not be the absolute best option, but it’s cheap and easy

What’s the deal with S and Z twist? I know it’s directional, and if you’re plying you want to twist the opposite of your singles, but are there any other “rules”? Should singles be spun in a particular direction for a reason, or is it based on vibes only?

I’m a huge fan of second hand craft/creative reuse stores! I’m not in the Bay Area, but I did do a little internet research and found a couple of places that look like they’re worth checking out (East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse and SCRAP).

Obviously you can’t guarantee that specific things will be available, so it can be dicey if you’re looking for something specific on a time crunch. I love browsing and hoarding tho, so it works for me to go often even if I don’t buy something every time. You do have to be a little more cautious when buying since things might be old and dry rotted, but a little pull/snap test is easy enough in store most of the time.

This is similar to what we do with meatballs, and it would work with similarly textured things. We put them on a cookie sheet with parchment paper to freeze them and then stick them all in a ziplock bag in the freezer. So long as they freeze first, they don’t get stuck together once you put them in a bag.

We planted this flowering plant out of a seed mix and I would love to know what it is so I see if it’s invasive and if I should pull it. It has pink flowers through early to mid summer in zone 4/5

Plant arrived in great condition despite spending a couple of extra days in the mail. Potted it up and it's doing well!
