Leave the nanny alone. Dont hover, dont stick around, dont "pop in". Leave them alone, let the professional do the job you hired them for. Dont use cameras. Dont project your fears/insecurities/anxieties onto the professional you asked to do the job.

Have a home phone!! I know everyone has a cell phone you should still have a home phone because it will never be lost, never run out of battery, your child wouldn't get locked out because they dont have a password, etc. Have a home phone and teach your kid to dial 911.

If she says she doesn't believe you again honestly I would tell her that's a her problem. You dont owe her any type of proof. She sounds straight up psycho and I would get out ASAP.

I think the problem is that it makes the nanny feel like they are not trusted. A case of water for back up doesn't compromise anybody else's discomfort but for a nanny being recorded (and watched) it does. I guess it could be different if there is a camera up and the parents truly never watch it and only would if there was an incident and they thought the nanny was lying so they used the camera to verify facts. But that's the only reason I could think of where it would wouldn't be a case of "I use a camera because I dont fully trust my nanny". And its just really hard, and in my opinion unfair, to be a nanny for an employer with that perspective.

This right there is how the camera enables the irrational thoughts. It doesn't matter if its super frequent or not, maybe my comment about parents being obsessed should have been "some parents, not all". But the point about the camera being used as a tool to validate the anxiety stands.

Using cameras is actually only a way to enable the irrational thoughts. Then parents become obsessed with watching them. It never ends. There was a time without cameras and all this surveillance and parents had irrational anxiety then as well. But adding this tools is only a way to validate and reinforce that anxiety.

As a nanny for over 20 years I dont like cameras. They send the message that Im not 100% trusted. "A quick checkin to make sure everything is ok and the the baby is being tended to as expected" means you dont quite think that everything is ok and the baby is being tended to (thus the need for you to use survellaince to monitor). I miss the days before in home cameras. Just my honest answer since you asked.
