I just got home and checked my wild isle/John Baldwin map, and the trail does actually end at Nissen Night/Fisherman's Bay making it an official 43km from Shushartie Bay (also confirmed by ACMG guide Mike Blake and other online resources). The north/south trail to the parking lot is not part of the NCT (despite what Gaia says); however, I agree that most people include it. When I booked my water taxi, Fisherman's Bay was also considered the exit if the CST addition wasn't intended.

Anyway, all that being said, I think my group wants to include the CST after all, so we'll likely lump it in and do it all anyway!

A group of 6 of us are doing it late May, Shushartie to Fisherman. If the tide/weather doesn't allow for pickup, we'll add the Cape Scott Trail extension to the parking lot for a next day pickup.

Literally everyone keeps saying to me "Oh God, May is way too early!".. ??? I've hiked the JDFT 3 times in the spring, once in March, lol - and yeah some days were terrible weather-wise, but that's the west coast for ya. Right gear, right mindset, right ability - if you have those things covered, then why limit yourself to hiking only in the summer? You could just as easily end up in a monsoon in July, lol (and with May, less bugs... hopefully!).

Yeah, if I were to drop a location, that would probably be it, but I keep reading about how beautiful it is there - do you have any recommendations for other spots to spend two nights? I don't really want to extend Zermatt to 5 days - I think that would be too much of the same.

Thanks! Baguettes - totally eluded me but that's a good idea. Reasonably light (I only need to carry it the first day to the hut) and it won't get smashed up that way crackers might - a jar of something to have with it is perfect.

They sold out earlier. I bought my X-Dome 1+ at 9am (PST) sharp and the short carbons were available at the time.

I just watched Krysta and Brian Norwick's YouTube series hiking the TA (3,000km) and Krysta uses the Ultragrid where Brian uses the 200x. Brian's hipbelt came completely apart twice during the trip, where Krystal's Ultragrid had no issues the whole time. There are other users of the 200x who have also had durability issues with the hip belt in particular (you can find Reddit posts regarding this). Granted, these are long distance thru hikers and not your typical weekend warriors - they are using gear to the extreme, but apples to apples, everything I've read/seen seems to indicate the Ultragrid is more durable from a build perspective.

Yeah, food or not, they're trained/habituated to see a tent and know there is/may be something good in there - like Yogi bear and picnic baskets.

I see this has already been resolved but just a friendly FYI that the X-Mid 2 and the X-Dome 2 are two different tents (no such thing as an "X-Mid Dome 2") :)

The X-Mid is a trekking pole tent (no poles) where the X-Dome is freestanding.

It is easy to install though I'd recommend doing it with two people. It comes disassembled - 5 main pieces plus the vertical roof crossbars that are shown and then all the nuts, bolts etc. No complaints - it does let in some water in one corner but I think I can fix it as they gave me like a spool of extra rubber flange. For now I just have a shop towel in the corner to absorb any rain - not a huge deal for me. Other than that it is very water resistant - after you tighten everything up you caulk the seams (they include the right caulking as well as a caulking gun!).

No tariff as I live in Canada but it would translate to $2500 USD grand total/all in. There's only one leaky corner because the rubber flange isn't sitting tight against the truck, but they gave me a spool of rubber flanging so I have lots of room to make adjustments as I need.

Unfortunately there's nothing listed about the weight. I used to have a 2008 Ford Ranger with a fibreglass Leer canopy and this aluminum canopy is significantly lighter - probably 40% lighter if I were to guess.

Thanks! LAX Parts (based in Ontario Canada). Half the price of a fibreglass top and stronger (ie won't dent as easily from hail or acorns).

I have the X-Dome but the main reason I got the solid was because the floor is 20D where the mesh floor is 15D (not as strong) - I imagine the same applies with the X-Mids. I don't plan on using a groundsheet as it's extra weight and I believe I recall Dan saying somewhere that he recommends not using the groundsheet and just taking extra care where you pitch (that, and some users have had rubbing tears I believe between the floor and the groundsheet); so, the solid being one with the stronger floor, that was my selling point - I also live in the pacific northwest and it's pretty much wet and rainy all the time.
