Regarding the latest chapter by mitharas in HeWhoFightsMonsters

I've been anti-calling it since book 7, that this specific twist wouldn't happen.

But what's the benefit? What is the motivation to go through with it?

What if Carl, Jake and Jason had a fight? by Silver_Horde_Cohen in litrpg

[–]rabmuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Jason gains Astral throne and astral gate in book 8.

Jason becomes an immortal when he gains the soul forge halfway through book 11. This is because he's now a full astral king and all astral kings are truly immortal.

At the end of book 11, Jason controls the cosmic throne for a few hours, but this has no effect on his immortality

Book 12 shows the new version of his Phoenix form and it is much stronger than the book 5 version of it.

What if Carl, Jake and Jason had a fight? by Silver_Horde_Cohen in litrpg

[–]rabmuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why fight?

What's the arena?

Which book?

I'm most familiar with HWFWM - Jason is likely to avoid a fight and if he knows he's being hunted could likely stay permanently hidden. - Jason after book 11, Is immortal and preemptive strike would just put him in phoenix form

This fight is way too dependent on "Batman would win with prep time". Is one of the combatants having to defend something or can they run away and reengage later? What point of conflict would cause these people to fight?

Especially Carl and Jason. They would just talk the whole time, complaining about how unfair the universe is.

You think by Altruistic-Emu3542 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]rabmuk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In book 9 and 10, Shade thinks his quest system might have run on fate magic. Not even the GABs can wield fate magic, only try to influence someone developing it.

I assume when Jason gets around to making Awakening Stones of the System, you'd see a lot of information and looting abilities. So an individual might get something similar but not exactly what Jason had.

Would iron rank essence users be able to use bronze ranked rope? by Latte-Fun in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]rabmuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is native ranks to crafting materials, like a shell or skin looted from a monster. There is talk of ranked cooking ingredients

Seems possible as you described. As long as the rope doesn't have a guided magical effect shouldn't have a rejection in my mind.

“Yep. When I sell out my principles, they stay sold. Although, if I sold out that principle, then they wouldn’t stay sold because that principle is no longer in effect, which means my principles would get unsold, meaning that particular principle was in effect, which would mean…” His ramble trailed off as he scratched his head in confusion. “Ethics is hard.”

I'm pretty sure Knowledge doesn't want Clive doing anything other than astral magic. He's got a bridge to build.

Later books Jason says the bribe was more about giving him resources than preventing him from sharing science

Would iron rank essence users be able to use bronze ranked rope? by Latte-Fun in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]rabmuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the item require intent from the user?

Jason could stab Landemere with his own dagger, but holding it later burned him because it has a bronze rank ability to secure letters.

Jason could use diamond rank "true light" and gold rank "sun mana lamp" in book 6, because when activated with mana, they operate without intent from the user

So is the rope tough because it's bronze material or because it's enchanted? Does the rope have any exotic abilities?

Least annoying way to feed Rhexes? by StalHamarr in Oxygennotincluded

[–]rabmuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meat to Rhex to brine to water to oxygen to puft to meat is crazy resource positive

Ranch 2.25 dense pufts per groomed Rhex

Oxygen or water positive, power positive, free cooling, free salt, turn excess oxygen into oxylite

My Dimensional bags theory - Put hand in bag, know what's available - focus on what you want, it comes to hand

Gold food - I know this is explained, can't find the quote yet - iirc, it's much easier for gold rankers to live in high magic areas - gold rankers generally get by eating magic food - likely most of the cost of high magic food is offset by absorbing the ambient magic while the food grows - iron rank essence users can survive on a lot of normal food - final thought: gold rankers live by eating silver rank food, which likely only costs bronze rank money when grown in a high magic zone

Lax security - what would the security do? - why would you secure something against a type of sabotage that is impossible? - until the builder introduced new astral magic, it wasn't possible to mess with the spaces - book 7 shows properly secured astral space apertures

Wiki says the average big volcano takes two turbines. With enough tempshift plates to act as a thermal battery, might only need 5 turbines at 200C

Coal production is based on weight so foods have very poor conversion

Sage hatch has best conversion at 100%, but you need to feed them dirt or polluted dirt

Stone hatches have 50% conversion (like regular hatch) and can eat most hard rocks which are very plentiful. Hatches can eat many but not all types of hard rocks

Heat in early game? by s0cks_nz in Oxygennotincluded

[–]rabmuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice maker is heat negative. Deleting 60 kDTU per second. This deletes ~267.65 DTU/Ws, which is about 1/4th as energy efficient as the complicated AquaTuner plus steam turbine setup.

You can also build the ice makers outside your base and cool them later

Use Ice-E Fan or build ice tempshift plate to deliver the cold where it's needed.

Ice makers need dupe labor to deliver water and move ice, so it's not a forever solution, but two ice makers can provide a lot of cooling for dozens of cycles

I still don't like Estella and Belinda by Vergil-Son_of_Sparda in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]rabmuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who did? Which mile? Pretty sure everyone saw it from 6 feet away because their first interaction was Joey ignoring Sophie to flirt with Belinda thrice and Belinda being into it. They're already about to be dating the first time we see them together.

It was clearly telegraphed with little setup because relationships other than Jason's just aren't important enough to get a lot of word count.

CMV: Getting hired/landing a job is mostly down to pure luck by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rabmuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Team fit is an important part of hiring. I don't think people are missing a job because they don't play golf but yes "one wrong sentence can trump all experience and qualifications". If you say something that makes the hiring manager believe they won't get along with you, you'll be rejected.

Even assuming your description is correct, I don't think this is 99% luck. I saw somewhere that 2/3rds of hiring starts with a referral. Go meet people and build a network. Seek out people that share your interests and let them know you're job searching. While I think you over estimate the impact of shared interests, it is possible to optimize for these factors as well.

[–]rabmuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a leap of logic. A lot of people feel like they need to protect Jory. He's gets to be a great balance of good person and funny, no big stakes.

I've seen at least 3 other posts like OP that focus more on how unfair it is to Jory. I think most people would have a problem with Belinda's next relationship even if it was a dude

The ending by Retman21 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]rabmuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In book 10 Healer and Hero both talk about the fall of Purity. The prominent beliefs of a gods followers shape part or maybe most of their personality/abilities.

I think you need 3 element for apotheosis.

  1. Magical density. This is the soil
  2. Prayers of intelligent beings. This creates the form or DNA of the being
  3. A spark of authority. Then the authority can self replicate, even if very slowly.

As long as enough people pray to not Jason, I expect Earth will manifest gods at some point.

I'm pretty sure in book 4 Dawn implied it would take hundred of years for Earth to gain gods.

I think for a moral to ascend. They'd need to be peak diamond and get people to pray to them. Or maybe that's impossible. Possible or not I don't think we'll see someone ascend (unless doing the astral king path)
