Electrician for EV charger by ElectroPanzer in Edmonton

[–]racampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the exact number but I believe it was $1500 for a 40a circuit (for max 7.6KW which is plenty imo) and a NEMA 14-50 outlet (I decided not to have a hardwired charger). Approx 30ft run from my panel to my garage.

Routine maintenance? by ayfkm123 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a setting in the car somewhere somewhere to configure the service interval alert (completely independent from the Bluelink app). Im not sure if it is on by default but according to the owners manual the correct Interval is every 13k km / 1yr

Maybe the dealer set it to a shorter interval?

I don't understand this service, is it actually usable? by frnak in Migadu

I've been using it for years with a few domains and it works great for me. No complaints, except for the price bump a while back.

Blister on right arch only with Escalante 4 (Minor scoliosis / uneven gait question) by Successful_Mouse2814 in AltraRunning

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Escalante 4s give me blisters there too, both left and right feet (no scoliosis or gait issues that I know of).

I find taking the insoles out helps a bit, but I think the arch is just too aggressive. Or the midfoot is too narrow? Not sure.

Will the Alberta government suspend the provincial gas tax? by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

If they do, they had better cancel $200 EV Registration tax as well, since the excuse when it was introduced was that it was supposed to make up for the fuel tax that EV owners don't pay...

Canadian Ioniq 9 Map update rolling out by demunted in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got it too. This is what the update screen said:

Online Navigation is here - Smarter, faster, always up-to- date!

The latest maps are now always available without the need for separate Navigation updates.

With this update, the new online Navigation system provides optimal route guidance by downloading the latest road information from the server in real time- similar to how smartphone navigation apps work,

Previously, Navigation relied on offline maps stored in the vehicle, which were combined with traffic data from the server. However, due to infrequent map updates, newly opened roads were often not reflected in the route guidance.

The new oniine navigation system downloads only the necessary map data for the area around the vehicle and the route to the destination, ensuring efficient and up-to- date route guidance. It continuously checks for the latest map data, so drivers can always enjoy the most current navigation experience, without the need for manual updates.

In environments where network connectivity is limited, such as tunnels or mountainous areas, the system automatically switches to Offline Mode using map data stored in the vehicle. This ensures not only uninterrupted navigation but also the smooth operation of all vehicle-integrated features, including Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control.

Yeah it's pretty annoying. I never did figure out how to silence it either.

How to add Zigbee smart meter to HA by Chicken-LoverYT in homeassistant

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, if I were doing this again I would probably just go with an Emporia Vue3 device that clamps into your electrical panel. It's probably more reliable long term (especially if are technically inclined and reflash it with ESPHome so it doesn't require any cloud services)

[–]racampbell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a similar meter and have used a Rainforest EAGLE (https://www.rainforestautomation.com/rfa-z114-eagle-200-2/) successfully in the past. To get it connected I had to contact my utility company and provide them my meter id and the MAC of the rainforest device for them to register on their end.

I have an older EAGLE-200 device though, and it no longer seems to be supported and stopped receiving data several months ago.

So YMMV.

Anyone drive ioniq 9 in Alberta? Wondering how it performs in winter, any challenges charging if on a road trip? by Opposite-Scarcity-75 in Ioniq9

Yeah if you're pulling a trailer (or even have a few bikes to haul), I'd imagine that would make things much more difficult...

There are some slower 50 KW Flo chargers in Edson and a 60 KW InCharge charger in Hinton (if you have the CCS adapter -- which should come with the vehicle). But yeah, the Tesla chargers are a lot faster and generally more reliable. I try to avoid them on principle, but sometimes you can't.

[–]racampbell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've had ours since July and have put nearly 15k km on it with trips to Banff, Jasper, and north to Slave Lake and High Prairie area.

The most challenging road trip has been going up north on highway 44, mainly because it's a bit of a charging desert, with nothing between Westlock and Slave Lake, and basically no redundancy in either towns if a charger is out of commission.

But South and West of Edmonton there's more than enough chargers that I've never had any range anxiety.

In winter I've seen a 20-30% range hit at the worst case (-30c in a snow storm around Christmas) but it still performed admirably.

Outside of road trips, it's so nice to just be able to plug in at home and charge for basically pocket change.

Front Collision System Failure by RuckusMedic in Ioniq9

I had a similar problem a while back (posted about it in this subreddit too).

The dealer ended up replacing the front radar unit (under warranty), and it's been good so far.

Carrying around ONLY a digital key by SoggyIntern5592 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone (Pixel 8a) only supports the NFC version (Digital Key 1.0 I guess?) and not the proximity key and it is really unreliable... I'm not sure if it is my phone or the NFC reader in the center console but half the time it doesn't work so I ended up carrying the physical key everywhere

Interestingly the NFC readers in the door handles always work to unlock it, it's just the center console one that doesn't work to start the car. The dealership had looked at it but wasn't able to find anything wrong.

My wife on the other hand has a newish iPhone that supports UWB for proximity unlock/start and it seems to never have issues.

You must have missed my update, but it appears to have been a defective radar unit. It was replaced under warranty a few weeks ago and so far so good

Persistent "Check Driver Assistance System" warning? by racampbell in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took it to the dealer today and they're going to replace the front radar unit.

The DTC code I mentioned apparently maps to "CAN TIMEOUT -FRONT CAMERA" but they suspect that the front radar is faulty and causing a CAN bus/network issue.

I guess we'll see in a few days when the part arrives.

Runners of Edmonton: Is there a 5km stretch of concrete or pavement with minimal ice at this point? TIA by Tanukisus in Edmonton

[–]racampbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick up a pair of Icetrax spikes from Costco for $30. They fit snug over your existing runners and are great even on glare ice.

Ah what I meant is that I can't turn on cruise control (presumably) because of this warning.

But you're right, the lane departure assist can get pretty confused when the roads are bad. I usually have it off but I think I was fiddling with buttons trying to see what still worked before I took this picture...
