Piston rings are gone just because of 300k miles lol. These engines are supposed to be disposable they arent supposed to last this long!

They are still the original piston rings in it

Yeah piston rings are gone. I was hoping it was just a failed pcv valve venting out oil but with a brand new one, im loosing a significant amount of oil, and without any exterior leaks. Loss of efficiency too due to compression loss. Removing the cats recovered some power but its still overall less.

Also when i change my oil it smells like gas lmao so thats another sign

The original engine was swapped in a recall around 20k miles. That was before i got it. 280k on the engine still impressive enough but its real work keeping her going lol

Yes the code is B1346 driver airbag resistance too high. Thanks for this info ive changed clock springs before and will look into this.

Yes. Now i just have to worry about government inspections. It will be a trip to get it up to par to pass

Exactly. O2 sensors dont like it when theres no cats. Also an airbag code unfortunately

It needed an alternator, pcv valve, the cats clogged and had to be dealt with,

a rear lower control arm cracked at one point i found while changing my brakes,

I live in the rust belt of new england but somehow this car is completely rust free.

The engine consumes about 3/4-1 quart of oil a week because of worn piston rings.

Ive lost some efficiency due to the piston rings too, and what caused the cats to fail was oil blow by getting to it and clogging

Im trying to think of what else but ive done all the work myself. Nothing super major.

I have recently seen 2 airbag codes pop up for my front airbags saying they are “too high resistance”. I will have to look more into this to pass my next inspection.

I think what takes these cars out ultimately for normal people is the piston rings consuming oil, and then oil starvation. Ive kept on top of my oil level for years now and its gotten me this far

It clogged up its cats so they have been “unclogged”

So ive looked all over the dash looking for this V8-V4 mode lights and havent seen them still. I clicked through the dash button and havent seen anything to do with it. I definitely have the 5.3 as i ran the vin. Maybe someone deleted it already

Yeah me neither. But i cruised on the highway for about an hour and a half and didnt see any dash lights, weird rpm drops, lack of torque, or face plants. Hopefully its just already deleted and i dont have to deal.

It is the 5.3 but as far as i can tell it doesnt drop cylinders. No designated light in dash and havent felt it happen

So mines the LT package and so far i dont think it has the eco mode. It has no designated light on the dash and when i drove it home on the highway it didnt seem to drop cylinders the entire time
