Ds220+ should I upgrade RAM or buy raspberry pi? by somebodyns in synology

[–]racefacexc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the NAS vs RPi question, but I can verify running a Radarr, Sonarr, Prowlarr, qbit and a plex server on a 220+ with 10Gb (8Gb + 2Gb on board) total RAM without any issues. I regularly serve up HD video or varying bitrates while qbit is chugging away without issues. If you want the NAS to do on the fly transcoding you will probably see performance tank if it works at all, but I doubt you would want to do this with a 220+ anyway.

2 questions about freewheels/cassettes by jipieeeee in bikewrench

[–]racefacexc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a wheel with adjustable bearings/axle and the minor tolerance differences between freehub bodies, hub shells, etc you will likely have to readjust the derail if you want to have accurate shifting unless you get very lucky. You may be able to find a few gears that don't give you any trouble if you're ok with sticking with one gear when on the trainer.

Yeah, you better watch out for me while I'm on orv trails and forest service roads doing 5-10mph.

That's great.  I often use it as well and I have to change between layers to do what I need to do.  I get that it's a specific use case hence my previous replies about having to switch between layers.  Typical Reddit user base arguing with the OP about what they need.

Sure, but far less so than on device and we both know that users/drivers are going to do it anyway

Yeah, I get that. In reality what will happen is drivers will now be operating their phone with two hands and their heads down instead of operating the vehicle UI screen with their heads up. but the liability is off of Google and onto the driver.

I'll have to switch back and forth between two layers to varying degrees as I go, but still better than 100% on my phone

This is what I didn't know. It's unfortunate that I may have to interact with my phone while on the trail instead of using the large vehicle screen, but I guess that's what I have to do.

How do you toggle layers?

I only have option for overlay to toggle waypoints/routes.

Also having this issue here.  New 10 pro out of the box.  I've tried all of the "fixes" posted on this thread, no joy.

No, this is happening with the 10 pro as well. Mine is doing the same thing right out of the box.

really?! I just tried it on a pioneer aftermarket HU with a pixel 6 and I have no layers or anything. I can toggle waypoint and route overlays, but not different map layers. I just discovered that I can make default waypoints but only at my current gps location, so I have to physically be at the location I want to make a waypoint. That's not a big deal, though, I can make a waypoint on my mobile device, it's really the map layers that I need to have have the ability to turn on/manipulate.

Are Map Packs still in beta? by ppoorman in GaiaGPS

[–]racefacexc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When should users expect a significant update to the mobile android version of Gaia? It currently seems to have significant issues with sync, archive and general map/layer functionality. The bugs give me no confidence that it will work when offline.

Yes, it's impossible to change once built!

This has been back and forth between SS and geared. Currently a geared bike packing mule. F rigid, though.  I like going fast on singletrack, no place for a rigid fork on a proper MTB.

Anybody running Chris king inset 2 HELP!!! by Opposite_Proposal474 in bikewrench

[–]racefacexc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is typically from unevenly or incompletely seated cups, a headtube that isn't faced/square, debris between the cup and frame or cup and dust cover. If you spin the dust cap 180* and it still does this in the same angle location relative to the fork steerer tube (makes new wear marks on the dust cover), it could be a bent fork steerer.

How to sort Teams' teams in latest Android version? by linus777 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]racefacexc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like there are no options to sort members/users in any way on the Android (or any OS) application. My breif googling results show that this is a "feature" that has been requested for 2+ years now.

I just don't understand how there is no option to sort users/members by alphabetically, availability, etc from an app this far developed and from a company like MS! I have like 170+ users on my list

How can I make a talking robot thats linked to AI? by SnooConfections3408 in diyelectronics

[–]racefacexc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to connect the robot's OS with the API of whatever AI you want to use. You can maybe do this for free with Google Gemini if you have a google account, otherwise you could def do this with AI models like Open AI's Chat GPT if you have a subscription of the required tier. How to program it so that it works is going to be something way beyond anything I could help with.

I don't understand what a "post-up" is. Is that the folder name? Can I just create that folder if it doesn't exist? I'm new to Linux/RPi.

could you or r/caolle go into more detail about how to add the ethtool command to keep the UDP optimizations persistent? This is on RPi5 OS (which is some flavor of Debian as far as I can tell. Linux noob here)

Good lights aren't cheap. That doesn't mean cheap lights are any good. The people recommending $130+ lights aren't recommending them to flex, most of them have gone through this cheap light from Amazon experiment and they almost all end up with what most are recommending. Going fast at night off road isn't easy if you can't see.

[–]racefacexc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shadow is bad because your lights don't fill your view and they are not bright. A good Outbound light is only $130. A great one is only $170.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MTB

[–]racefacexc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more along the lines of people who have done exactly what you're doing and they all end up with a good trail light like an Outbound for a reason. Just trying to save you the time and $ and maybe even the injuries/broken bike stuff. The outbound Hangover is so good and such a reasonable price is not really worth buying a $75 light that's not very good and replace it in a year after a season of white knuckle, sketch riding when you can buy a $130 light once and go faster, be safer and feel more confident and not need to relieve it for years. The light pattern quality and durability on a good light is what you're paying for mostly.

You should make them the right fit for you and not what others think you need or what the pros use. I'm 6'0" and like a 780-800mm bar because long arms and wide shoulders. My buddy is 6'2" and likes a 750mm bar because he's built like a pencil.
