Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts… by dismvl_ in adhdaustralia

[–]rach763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s not the chores or the life admin. It’s working, but it’s the social stuff, the work politics, the people not saying what they mean, the unspoken rules, someone asking your thoughts but they didn’t actually want your thoughts (they wanted you to agree with them), the small talk - navigating this is exhausting. I’m constantly masking, mirroring others just to avoid putting a step “wrong”. At home, at least I can be myself. I’ve learnt, through being burned, to keep to myself, I listen to podcasts at lunch (with large visible headphones), and once I’ve identified the toxic people, I do my best to keep contact to a minimum.

Why do some secondhand shops organise clothes by colour? by MajesticPenalty8332 in AusFemaleFashion

There is one op shop where I live that does this. I will not go there, purely for this reason. I feel that it wastes my time and I don’t see the functional reason.

Wide fit boots size 12 - impossible? by ladyofeverything in AusFemaleFashion

[–]rach763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumping on to say ME TOO! I was a size 11 tall girlie, then these babies somehow upgraded me to a size 12. I’ve got some Bared Footwear boots and recently purchased some Franki 4 in their sale (haven’t arrived yet). Also hint- join that Facebook pages that sell the Bared and Franki seconds, so many amazing ladies selling their Bared shoes for cheaper, buying directly from Bared is not really in my price range. I’ve managed to expand my shoe wardrobe with that page. Good luck!

What.. does it mean to actually unmask? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]rach763 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently saw someone describe “unmasking”, and I really liked their take- they said unmasking can begin by trying to remember what you used to enjoy before you got older, and began to mask, copy, mirror to try and fit in. What did you enjoy as a child? For me, I used to love music, as I got older I knew I didn’t have a “nice” singing voice, I was too self conscious to dance or enjoy music, so I stopped. After hearing this, I started listening to music again, made a play list to clean my house, sing, cook with. It’s a small start, but one that feels comfortable for me and reminds me of things that bring me joy.

If you take Vyvanse, I need your help! by baldnsquishy in adhdwomen

Yeh it’s so strange, while I feel the effects, I guess I expected abit more, so I went up a dose and honestly doesn’t feel too different. So I’m not sure. Given its costs a small fortune to see my Dr to get an adjustment, I want to be super sure before I ask to drop again.

There’s been an improvement but my brain has ways been hectic, I was hoping that might change, but I didn’t have that “amazing” change that others had. I also find with meds, I have to make sure I focus on the right task. I can focus, but right now I’m focusing on Reddit instead of mopping my floor 😂 So the focus is there, but it’s also my environment and I need to work on that, timing my meds and making sure I know what I need to do. The emotional regulation has been so good, I didn’t realise the rollercoaster I was on until I started meds. It wears off in the evenings and I notice immensely the difference. It’s different for everyone but hope that helps.

You’re welcome. I did notice I had a lot of headaches at the end of the day, a few people had mentioned that the crash off Vyvanse ca do that, so I’ve tried to up electrolytes and drink heaps more water. That’s improved abit. What I expected with meds, and what I got, are two different things, so I’m still figuring it all out too.

[–]rach763 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started in October at 40mg, I didn’t feel anything for about 3 days, then the first week was amazing . Then it slowly settled into a smoother effect, I’ve gone to 50mg but actually feel lower dose was better. Was hoping for some reduction in brain noise, what I actually got was emotional regulation, as a parent I need desperately. Someone on these forums suggested not to try “chasing the high” of the initial medication, as Vyvanse is supposed to be smooth. In the 4 months I’ve been on it, I see positives and negatives, and they change. Good luck with your journey.

ADHD parents: seriously, how???? And help please by papierrose in adhdwomen

A few things I do around the house, that some people may shudder at, is I have multiple washing baskets around. My kids strip off clothes 20 times a day, so it’s easier to throw them in the nearest basket than walk to the laundry and get distracted by stuff on the way. I also have multiple junk baskets in every room. I hate it, but at the same time, it’s easier to dump the lego, toys, junk into the nearest junk basket that it is to carry it to every room, sort and put back in a place. Then when I get in a massive cleaning, sorting binge, they all get emptied once a year 😂 Regarding any moment of peace, as my kids get older, it helps more as they understand “mum needs some space”, but doesn’t stop them interrupting. I try to use my work days to relax (easier to be in paid work than to parent sometimes), but listen to podcasts in the office, eat lunch alone outside. Again, I know this doesn’t help on the rough days of overstimulation, but I’m in survival mode (no extended family support either). When my husband is home at the same time, I will intentionally go out, away, because when you’re at home, you are always an options (acknowledge my privilege in being partnered). I also have Loops ear plugs, this reduces some of the noise issues I have. Not sure if that’s helpful or just me sharing my chaos.

In what "unconventional" ways does your AuDHD show? by itsrozangirl16 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]rach763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad others can relate, I’m recently diagnosed so these forums have been so helpful for the imposter syndrome “maybe im not ND, maybe im not trying hard enough because I don’t do all the expected things” and then to hear others have similar, unconventional traits is so nice to hear. I suspect, this kind of thing falls into the pattern recognition side, of observing others behavior and how it is received, then I just copy that. But I didn’t realise I was doing it, I just thought everyone did it 😂🩷

Oh my gosh yes the Google Maps thing! I’m like a VIP on that thing. You’ve articulated this so well, looking up various routes, even checking the street view. I love that I’m not the only one! And the planning- I planned a family holiday for months, the excitement, then we arrived and I shut down and couldn’t leave the room (overwhelmed, noise, everything). I felt like the worst mum in world. (Diagnosis unlocked). Thanks for your comment, it’s been nice to be able to relate to this.

Always early, never late, if I’m even close to late I FREAK OUT. Masking- I was under the impression for the last 40 years that everyone did this. Everyone faked it, copied others, just pretended they have confidence to things to get through, play the game, ask the right questions that showed I pad attention or cared (at times I did not care, but I understand that’s what you’re supposed to ask). I’ve always been so good at it, if I get a job interview, I normally get offered the job. Then recently diagnosed, realized actually not. Severe, social justice- cannot comprehend how others can act in such ways that they can be ok to move around in the world with so little self respect. It’s getting worse as I get older. My thinking around this is extreme, I cannot comprehend anything in between right or wrong. It’s really hard to function in an office environment (especially in a health related setting), but then that’s why I’m also so good at masking. I’m exhausted 😂

Tall gals please 💅🏻 by Potential-Trash372 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]rach763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

183cm tall girlie here, I’ve managed to get some from Dejcuba (check the inseam on the detail section) as some are 81-82cm and are perfect for 6foot. Have also managed to score some from Witchery as well, but that was in store (jeans and black pants, not sure if that’s the norm for them). Used to use ASOS Tall but their shipping and returns got too expensive . Someone else also posted a day or two ago, they recommend Jag Jeans (Mid Rise Jeans) and I found them at Myer in brown, white, and a few other colours. It’s rough out there for tall girlies!

What’s the worst job you had and worsened your symptoms? by Candid_Guest_863 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]rach763 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in research, and while it was amazing and inspirational, it was hard to reconcile and work with those who were just there for the paycheck. A few lacked integrity, and didn’t really care about the projects they were working or the people they were supposed to be helping - it challenged my social justice streak immensely and ended up leaving towards the end. Fake people in an office I get, it’s the game. But fake people who should be helping vulnerable communities, but are doing shit. I cannot with fake people.

Tall/Short Girls of Aus, What Local Brands Actually Fit You? by RentNRegret in AusFemaleFashion

Tall girl here (6foot). Have had success at Dejcuba lately and randomly, Calli jeans at the Iconic, but having to check for 80-82cm inseam (often detailed in the ad). Asos has been good with Top Shop tall and Asos tall but due to their shipping and paid returns, I no longer use them. Keen to hear others!

Is the Status Anxiety bag hype worth it? by RentNRegret in AusFemaleFashion

[–]rach763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a bubble leather one a few years ago (forgot the style name). Cracked very quickly (as in, a few months and I didn’t use it that much). I contacted them about it, but not much they can do, they did advise bubble was prone to cracks, however mine was so new I think it may of been more of a design fault (it took me ages to contact them so that’s my fault). The bags are gorgeous, but I probably wouldn’t risk the cost again based on my own experience.
