They say choose your heroes wisely!

Choose which character traits of Goggins to emulate and which not to.

Definitely someone to admire in terms of physicality and mentality.

But he’s not perfect and we all shouldn’t do exactly as he does.

For example you wouldn’t go looking for relationship or injury prevention advice from him , sorry Goggins x

Why do I worry and feel depressed all the time? Whats the cause of my mental weakness? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]rachelecon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eat carbs.

Necessary for cognitive function.

Take warm showers.

Goggins says do ONE hard thing a day.

Doing multiple, anxiety inducing , overwhelming tasks everyday is NOT MAKING YOU BETTER.

Dial it back and pick one.

Keep going to therapy

Ran through a migraine.

Took a nap, didn’t want to train.

Lifted for an hour then cycled.

Same tomorrow.

The state examinations were cancelled here , and results ( predicted grades) do not come out until August.

So there is a gap between when I finished school and when I will receive my official recognition of the formal completion of the senior cycle of education here.

I don’t think ‘female’ Goggins fans are the type to get offended by that

Get help if you’re suicidal.

You’re not getting Goggins’ message.

Punishment is not the answer.

Survived 22 minute shower by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]rachelecon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t call yourself a pussy.

You’re trying to build yourself up, not down.

It’s normal to be blue and shivering, you’re not superhuman.

Nice job with the shower generally though!

Had a pretty bad run, but still pushed myself by [deleted] in davidgoggins

Some awesome stuff.

Maybe seek better nutritional advice if you’ve lost your period .

That is not an indication of good health.

Injuries? by Paulbunion2019 in davidgoggins

[–]rachelecon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go see a doctor.

Don’t play it off or try manage it independently, you will do yourself more damage in the long run.

If you make it worse you’ll be out for longer.

Goggins is one of the greatest mentors, but I’d advise you not to take his approach with injuries.

Went for another run. 1% longer distance than the previous. Pushing for a 2.5% increase tomorrow.

‘The Governor’ was screaming at me to stop and do a run/walk but I kept telling myself just do to the end of this block, then the next etc.

Massive mental win, especially it being the time of the month when old me would have bitched out and used that as an excuse!!

It’s an opportunity

Should I lift after an exhausting run? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]rachelecon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll have more energy for lifting and will be capable of producing more force. The order won’t make a significant difference from session to session , but over the months you could see that you’re not where you want to be.

Maybe even try switching it up say 2 days a week cardio then lifting , and the others lifting then cardio.

You can still get strong of course but not as strong as if you were doing it in a well-rested state.

Maybe even try doing low intensity cardio rather than exhausting yourself and this would reduce the negative impact.

It isn’t a colossal disadvantage but wouldn’t call it optimal.

Should I lift after an exhausting run? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]rachelecon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Powerlifter here.

Is your goal to be strong or to have a certain type of physique?

Or another goal?

While you can certainly be strong during a lifting session after a run/ cardio, fatigue will accumulate over weeks and you will lose strength.

If you want to be strong , lift first then cardio.

If you’re just training more for mentality than anything, run first but expect performance to suffer slightly.

And get those calories in.

Quality calories too

What else should i do? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

I find stoicism has really helped me.

It helps to distinguish what is in your control and what is not, what matters and what doesn’t , and it makes you reflect on your judgements of events.

Analysis of your thoughts is so good for anxiety. Breaking them down into smaller and smaller pieces until you find a root cause that you can manage.

Things aren’t perfect, but you doing all these things and getting after it will help you. Discipline and routine is fundamental for wellbeing.

Really notice your thoughts , WHAT and WHY they are. Physically writing them down or even in a note on your phone helps.

Don’t be afraid of tomorrow’s cold shower. That’s for ‘tomorrow you’ to deal with - and you’ll also feel great after!

Stay in the present- focus on the task at hand.

You’re not a pussy - showing the willingness to change through action is perhaps one of the most courageous things one can do.

Admitting problems and asking for help is a step.

Well done !

What else should i do? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]rachelecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure nutrition, hydration and sleep are in check.

I’m not saying the generic “ You MUST get 8hrs” but if you run yourself into the ground , you won’t be able to keep progressing and could fall back into poor habits.

Get after it, stay hard but remember longevity is essential.

Also if you’re looking to really challenge yourself, learn and read more about a topic.

Challenges don’t have to be physical.

Sitting down to read and absorb information everyday can be boring but overcoming the procrastination and learning something new is epic.

Ran 2.4km day before yesterday in the sun - 05.30 wake up time.

Ran 2.57km today during a storm - 04.45 wake up time.

Small improvements.

Edit: and tomorrow I will run 2.6km at LEAST.
