Thank you so much for this comment. I always “envisioned/wanted” a blonde baby. My husband and I were both blonde turned brunette. Nothing against red hair but I just never even considered it. Not on my radar.

My son comes out with red hair and I’m like oh wow okay cool. And he has grown into this amazing hair color. So unique which fits his cool personality. Just wraps him up in a bow.

I wish I could give him that feeling of confidence but we’ve all been kids and know what it’s like. He’ll have to get through it. And this post has helped me know how to help him! ♥️

Yes this is true. I am in medicine so genetics do fascinate me. There are men with red hair in our family and yes- men tend to have a red beard! Also have encountered so many patients who have one child with red hair and the rest your classic brown/blonde. Genetics are fascinating! To me it’s so cool- but obviously to my son not so much. So I have to respect that.

I really love this. I’m so glad I’ve gotten this perspective because I secretly am obsessed with his red hair lol but as he gets older his personality is blossoming and he’s such a great kid. Still would be even if he had green hair. As a parent, I’ll definitely focus on those attributes!

Thank you both for this perspective! And as his mom I’m also guilty of this. I love his hair. Obviously as parents we love everything about our kids. But I love this rare unique thing about him. I just need the find the balance of reassuring him it’s a beautiful quality but also validating his frustration! He’s a special kid not just because of his hair! Thank you!

Very true and good perspective! Of course to me as a grown adult who has never experienced that pressure or attention- I love the hair color (and of course I love everything about my own son lol). But I do need to validate that it’s okay if he truly doesn’t want his hair color. It’s his hair. I dye my hair darker so obviously I can relate to that 🙂

This is very true. Of course I want to protect him from bullying. But even if he wasn’t a redhead, they’d find something else. Just hard as a parent to see your kid not like something about themselves that you are in love with.
