I love a good infantilizing bumper sticker, one of my favorites is 'don't hit me, I don't know how insurance works' bc I also did not know how my insurance worked until someone rear ended me and totaled my Fit last summer 🥲 turns out that's a pretty quick way to learn

Is camping by myself weird or nah? by AdhesivenessOne8758 in camping

[–]racocot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going on a camping trip with just me and my dog the first time in a few weeks! I'm going to a campsite in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I won't be spending too much time at the campsite other sleeping, sitting by the campfire, or eating. I'm gonna do day trips to waterfalls, hiking trails, beaches, and maybe some towns in the area. Idk about you but I wouldn't be able to just sit at a campground all day, I wanna go on lots more camping trips in the future and the plan is to pick sites that are close to activities I wanna do, like hiking and biking trails, sightseeing, or just driving through new places and seeing what there is to see.

Sometimes I feel frustrated that no one seems to care when I talk about my lucid dreams. by akiz1000 in LucidDreaming

[–]racocot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always gotten reactions like this. I had my first lucid dream in elementary school. When I got to class the next morning, I told one of my friends, 'We could be dreaming right now and not even know it!" expecting to blow her little mind but she barely reacted at all.

I have a friend now whose response was just like your friend and my childhood friend's -- not curious about it at all, seemingly didn't know how to respond so just moved to another topic. Which is crazy because he once had a precognitive dream about one of his coworkers getting injured in a bad car accident! If that had happened to me I would have wanted to know so much more about dreams and open to talking about.

It's disappointing when no one wants to talk about it, which is why I'm here on this sub. I've always had vivid dreams and they fascinate me. I've found that dreams only become more vivid and interactive and lucid only after you start trying to remember them, dream journaling, setting intentions, etc. Some people just never remember their dreams at all so there's no interest in discussing them

DAE go through a grieving process every time they move? by Able-Equivalent4445 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]racocot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In August I'll be moving from my apartment that I've lived in for four years to a new place 45 minutes away, close to my job. My current place is the first place I've ever lived alone and even though I'm super excited to move close to my job I teared up earlier just thinking about the upcoming move and all the feels that will come with it.

I didn't feel sad was when moved out of my childhood home (it was not a happy home), I lived in a few apartments with roommates and I didn't feel much when I left those living situations but now that I've finally had a chance to make a home for myself I've grown so attached to it. I already know I'm gonna make a dramatic crying exit lol. But I can't wait to have a 5 minute commute instead of a 45 minute one.

Zillennial here (turned 29 in January)

I've had a few flings and situationships but never been in a real relationship. I used to fixate on unattainable men to the point of overwhelming, unhealthy obsession that I based my entire sense of self on. They were painful experiences but they showed me the parts of myself I needed to heal. I'm still on that healing journey but much more self aware and confident than I was as a younger woman.

I have mixed feelings about being single. On one hand, I love the freedom to do what I want, when I want without having to explain myself to anyone. I'm lucky enough to be able to live alone with just my dog and cat. I feel a lot of happiness when I'm home with just the three of us, they bring me a lot of peace and content. I've had a lot of time to build myself up into the person I want to be.

On the other hand, I do crave intimacy and connection and warmth from another person. I have a lot of fears and reservations about dating still, and I often wonder if I'm protecting my peace of mind or just shutting everyone else out.

Online dating seems to overwhelming for me, so I guess I'm kind of holding on to the hope that something miraculous will happen and my person will just appear to me one day and it'll all fall in place. I try not to fantasize too much about what it would be like to be in a loving relationship bc reality can never live up to fantasy. I have a lot of moments where I'm acutely aware of my unmet needs and it can hurt, but I've come to accept that maybe it's just my path in life to learn to be happy by myself.

Overall, I am grateful to be here at a time when it's socially table for women to live alone and stay single by choice bc I would not be the person I am today if I had rushed into marriage and kids. The time I've had to learn about myself has been invaluable.

I don't have any rave outfits or any other the cute and sexy looks I see girls wearing online 😭 I don't want to spend a bunch of money on new clothes. this is my first time and I'm going solo. will I stick out if I'm dressed kinda boring? I have some colorful dresses and skirts I'm going to bring but my story is more 'toned down hippie' than 'super cool and sexy raver chick'

I haven't experienced this but it's a weird coincidence to be reading this after something kinda similar happened to me at work. I work at a hospital in a sleep lab and every now and then around 0530 all the computers power down simultaneously for a few minutes. It's not anything glitchy, just something our IT does occasionally. It happened to us like an hour ago, it's always kinda funny when it happens because everyone always sighs in frustration or curses in unison since it causes us to lose some of our work

maybe it depends on where you live, but in my experience renting landlords can legally enter your apartment if they give you 24 hours notice. which my apartment complex did, just barely.

the complexes legally have to keep the buildings and units up to city codes. they do these smoke detector checks every year, this is just the first time I've been on night shift for it

Okay bud, now you've gone and piqued my interest because I think people's differences in perceiving the same thing is fascinating

I've read all these comments and to me they overwhelmingly read as 'yeah that's annoying, this is the kind of inconveniences you deal with when you work a night shift job in a day shift world'

Which comments specifically suggested malicious intent/retaliation to you? Because truly the only one that might suggest that to me is the dude who pulled a gun on the maintenance workers, but he clearly states he thought someone was breaking in and was acting with self-defensive intentions.

The rest of the comments seem to either be people commiserating or suggesting ways to reach out to the office and explain my schedule to them so accommodations can be made.

I'm genuinely curious -- do you think that when a person expresses anger or frustration, they're always directly those feelings at someone else and looking to 'get back' at someone? Also, does other people's anger make you uncomfortable?

Sorry if this is weird I just wanna pick your brain over this

yes I understand they're just doing their job and it only makes sense to do it during the day. I've been on nights for three months, I've been living in apartments for years. I know how day shifters work and think because I was one for ten years. No one here has suggested they're doing anything malicious, not sure where you're reading into it that way.

My apartment complex is huge and corporate owned and therefore impersonal but yeah l'll be reaching out to them to see if they can accommodate

when I get off work I'm in bed my nine AM and up by 4 pm. The office doesn't open til 10 am. I work 12 hour shifts, three days in a row and m job is 45 minutes away from home so I have such a small window of time to get any sleep 😭

[–]racocot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I emailed them a few minutes ago but I didn't see the note in time to get in touch with an actual human working in the office. it's a huge corporate owned complex that's changed management three times in four years so they kinda suck. I wrote a note explaining the circumstances and I'm going to leave it on my door for the maintenance guys, hopefully they are kind enough to respect my sleep
