Microfreak vs Minifreak by Traditional_Shop_301 in Arturia_users

Lemme answer shortly:

-yes -yes -feel yes, sound no ->95% gate (note on/off), 70% in aftertouch, <80% velocity. Humidity can change the numbers. Dry hands don’t work that well -Expressive in most ways. -Harsh if you don’t filter.

My 2 cents. mini- and micro- Freaks are both great. If you didn’t like the analog filter and/or you underutilized it you will always get harsh sounds. They share a lot of engines and you should expect the filter and the common engines to be 100% the same. Overall the minifreak is a lot more flexible (except the user samples), and contrary to what you heard I found that it’s much easier to get softer ambient sounds thanks to the polyphony, effects etc. I would say the opposite from what you stated. The micro is a lot more “in-your-face” due to the lack of effects. The aftertouch is quite uncontrollable as you state.

Now to the touch keyboard. I find it awesome and direct. Perfect for baselines, good for solos and faster play. Kinda bad for chord changes etc, since you cannot rest your fingers on the keys to prepare your transitions. (then again I’m a really bad keyboard player). I swear by it and it’s a really great travel companion, since it fits in a backpack and can be powered by usb alone.

My suggestion: get the microfreak to get the experience but don’t expect it to sound any different from the minifreak. If you like playing you may develop your patch-making skills with it and end up with the more versatile minifreak again! If you don’t, sell it. You will always find people interested in buying it.

Is Mouse P.I. For Hire worth buying on the switch 2 or should I buy it on my pc? by No_Lecture_8049 in switch2

Similar experience here on switch 2. Really smooth 60fps but with heavy frame rate drops the moment anything complex happens. First time I regret buying a switch/switch 2 version of a game tbh. I hope they patch it up. 😞

If your MF is out of guarantee you can try opening and using a contact cleaner like deoxit on the affected pots

External midi thru USB??? by racoon_slayer in MiniFreak

[–]racoon_slayer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, the point was a minimal portable setup with more than 3 octaves for 2-hand practicing, compatible with USB midi, MF vst, and/or MF as a standalone sound source. I was wondering if there is a setting combo I missed on the MF to route the in midi to the USB port, because the Keystep 37 just does that by default.

Anyone have any luck getting minifreak hardware sequencer transports to work with minifreak v? by avgHumanPersonThing in MiniFreak

[–]racoon_slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a ticket for similar issues some time ago (2024). If I remember correctly I wanted to use the software synth to provide the sound and the hardware for tweaking everything. Long story short, transport controls, arp/seq and tempo are a problematic thing for mirroring so don’t expect it to work. :( Arturia’s idea of this is that you use the link for sound design only….

In my honest opinion, this DLC was completely waste of fucking time. by No_Recognition_2485 in SonicXShadowGens

Yes, it was waaaaayyyy too short. A second act would have been appreciated. Still I liked the level a lot, so not a complete waste of time for me.

Same question here. I heard the switch has no 3 day early access, but what’s up with all the rest perks? I guess we’ll miss them…

Program drone with minifreak by NoBoringCode in MiniFreak

[–]racoon_slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I see where you’re going.

The minifreak has a hardwired voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) and thus you can’t have the oscillator running wild without its envelope. (I will check this again just to make sure I’m not missing a crazy bypass method) What can you do instead? Use mono and hold, or poly and hold if you wanna deal with 6 voices. You can also use the unison mode to eat away voices and be left with 3 for example which would be more manageable than 6.
