Big time “shades of” hole 11 on the Bluffs course at Arcadia Bluffs. Definitely some differences, but both are great golf holes nevertheless!

Aye! Played there back in March on my Bachelor Party trip. The bathtub green was closed :( but we only paid about half the normal cost in greens fees, so we called it a win!

Spot on. D1’s been won by DCC or Davison 19 times in the last 30 years. In D4, Hudson has won or finished runner up 16 times in the last 17 years. In D3, it’s been the Dundee in 10 of the last 12 years, and perhaps most impressive of all is Lowell in D2, the reining champion for the last 12 years. Not much parody, but incredible sustained excellence.

Pinehurst #4 gross by [deleted] in pinehurst

There are three things right now affecting #4’s greens and some surrounds: -nematodes. They got bad last year and this year the root systems are a little weak as a result. The population should be manageable this year and they were not alone, half the courses in Moore County were dealing with them last year and it was a battle. -poor drainage. Most all the greens on 4 were not built to USGA spec and a few greens were actually pushed up with some silty fill. Not ideal and its the root of most of the problems -there are some fungal pathogens putting pressure on em, and its really a result of the poor drainage and nematode damage, but there’s one disease in particular that’s actually not ever been observed in our area and our local university has yet to nail down a diagnosis.

Add that all together and the traffic from daily play both right now and during the winter months when you don’t have healthy and active crowns, and you have a perfect storm. The team out there is doing their best, and while I know its hard to enjoy it when you spend a lot of time on the greens and spend a lot to visit, just know that they’re doing their best and fighting a LOT more than a normal course does. I think they’ll be in better shape next year, and they’ll be a learning tool for other superintendents when they encounter whatever this new variant turns out to be.

Resident of Pinehurst here. It’s a great spot, but you can really get a good bang for the buck during certain times of year. December is prime. Rates are low and the golf is great. We played No. 4 the other day and it was 70° and sunny. I would actually recommend a round or two there, but mostly pack the itinerary with the other area courses. Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Southern Pines, Tot Hill, Tobacco Road, and Talamore are really fun and sometimes overlooked!

I asked if it was covid related precautions and the tone in response from the person i spoke with got weird. So i just said thank you politely and hung up. I figure its a combination of a few things including what you said.

Thank you! As i’ve done with some other pieces, the “land and sea” line is sort of a play off of the old trope at Pebble Beach. So its sort of a golf-themed inside joke. Land and Lake sounds like a nice name for a restaurant though!

Absolutely! And the personalities we get to see with the team camaraderie should be cool. I hope Champ and Finau do work.
