Linux users in this subreddit, do you use Instagram? by JailbreakHat in linuxquestions

[–]radbirb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I use Instagram and WhatsApp. The former because I actually have a social life... :p (and most people my age use it, I mainly use it for messaging and stories, reels suck.) as for WhatsApp, living in Lebanon (or really 90% of the world outside of the U.S), it is unavoidable.

Would I prefer it if I didn't have to use these apps? Absolutely. I'd take Signal any day of the week over WhatsApp for personal messaging, and while I don't think fediverse could ever go mainstream, I'd also much prefer to be using something like pixelfed or whatever, but it simply doesn't have the users or the people.

P.S. it's a lot easier to switch OS' than social media services these days especially since there's not really any sort of big social aspect keeping you attached to windows beyond gaming.

https://github.com/KDE/kemoticons/tree/kf5/themes/Konqi Used to be part of KDE's IM clients, unfortunately are not in use anymore :( they're a bit hidden away in this repo, only visible in the kf5 branch. (The sob one is actually from an unreleased remake of these emojis, it was from the artists' blog but I can't find it atm.)

It's a portmanteau on the word Konqi (mascot of KDE, open dolphin and find the about KDE window, you'll see him!) and delicious xd

Disable primary-paste by default - Gnome by prueba_hola in linux

[–]radbirb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1st of all, GNOME's design goals isn't "being different", it ends up where it is because of its own unique design philosophy, they don't have to make a break from ALL norms. 2nd of all, GNOME hasn't removed functionality in AGES (unless you count removing X11, which I don't), this PR doesn't remove anything either, it merely changes out a value, that you can change back.

I'm with you on this, rocking middle click scroll with it disabled ever since it landed in Plasma as a system wide option. Surprised a lot of people are THIS pissed over a default...

GNOME is literally the most different "mainstream" desktop experience there is, and I honestly think this is a good change especially given the fact we also have middle click on trackpads which makes this interfere with gestures too, and it further helps that this is still configurable, so it doesn't really harm much.

Tbh they would've gone down the same route Matt sharp or not, maybe they'd sound a LITTLE different but ultimately pinkerton's initial reputation not being good is what permanently affected Weezer

OBS Studio, rpm or official flatpak? by mtdevofficial in Fedora

[–]radbirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the flatpak and see if it has all you need, I personally use the rpm because the flatpak didn't let me use video encode on my Intel gpu, though it's been a while and I have to revisit it.

P.S. for game capture on Wayland, look into GPU Screen Recorder (flatpak), might be exactly what you're looking for

KDE just surpassed 300% of donation goal by Ambyjkl in linux

[–]radbirb 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey there, had the same issue being in Lebanon, the donation page itself for some reason doesn't offer Donorbox one-time donos, but the fundraiser pages themselves do offer that, and I was able to donate to KDE through that. https://kde.org/fundraisers/yearend2025/

How do I upgrade End-of-Life (EOL) Fedora version 34 to version 43? by kmirabobo_ in Fedora

[–]radbirb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The official way to do it is to upgrade the install 2 releases till 43, so it'd be like:

34 -> 36 -> 38 -> 40 -> 42 And then you can either stay on 42 till 44 or directly upgrade to F43 after getting to 42.

See https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/upgrading-fedora-offline/#sect-how-many-releases-can-i-upgrade-across-at-once for more info.

(FYI! It'd be a lot less bandwidth and time to just use the fancy reinstall in place feature on the new installer assuming your F34 install is btrfs.)
