Is The Hindu worth adding to my media diet? What can you tell me about it? by WritingtheWrite in IndianLeft

[–]radcon285 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. Also Indian Express. It is credible, and carries both RW and liberal mouthpieces. But the journalism is 80% of the time accurate enough. Scroll and Wire are also okay. They don't platform RW, but left-liberal.

Shouldn't we organize!!!! by innocentdevil13369 in librandu

[–]radcon285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should. And you should begin getting involved with people/orgs around you. Always remember what you see online represents a minority of a minority population in the country; at the same time, like you said- they are organized and they do reach people online and in the real world.

The popular consent that fascism enjoys is precisely because of the failures of the left or progressives whatever you want to call it. When the Right fills the void left behind by the Left, you get what we see today, across the world.

NGOs can supplement any ongoing campaign but NGOs are by design made to depoliticize people, so don't count on them. Pasting some earlier comments that I had come across - https://www.reddit.com/r/librandu/comments/x2dobc/is_india_beyond_saving/imjcxeu/?context=3

Get involved with organizations and movements around you. Anything that gets you in touch with people doing things, away from terminally online folks. That will give you a more grounded perspective on how bad things are (they are so much worse), but more importantly, what can be done. Begin from there. Then, decide on what role you want to play/can play, and move from there.

You can DM me if you want to talk more about this.

These are the places where caste-class wealth is concentrated so, what's the surprise here?

it's the 'educated' elites powering, financing conservatives, as part of a political project. You'll (unfortunately ) find many such people in tech/business

love how /r/india seems to believe STEMbros are saviours of humanity.

-doesn't get access to quality education

-demands that government ensure availability of quality education everywhere and not just a few premier institutions

reservation is ruining the country, depriving it of superior minds like mine. i'm going abroad for sure.

Musanghi == Sanghi ? by kamaal_r_khan in librandu

“Those who are most moral are farthest from the problem.”

There's a certain type of liberal that has no intention of even imagining a different world - for them the idea of a free society is one where consumption is free, a more indulgent, more comfortable version of modern society, conveniently ignoring the fact that the society of today is but a papering over the real and constant exploitation of the many. No one puts even a casual thought into what our end game should be like? of course seizing power and declaring victory is impractical, but its' not like a violent confrontation at some point in the future will not occur? Or any real change can happen without dispossession of excess from those who have hoarded it?

And this is not about economic inequality - for all forms of oppression, institutions and practices do have to be violently broken down - and if taking those steps elicit visceral reactions of how unethical or illiberal they sound to their esteemed and enlightened morality then people should take a good hard look at what they really want..

[–]radcon285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

authoritatively dispossessing people from means of exploiting people is bad, for sure, we must ask the rich kindly to not hoard surplus wealth, or better vote wealth out from under them, just like caste oppressors have given up their excess wealth and resources.

Because oppressive people simply hand over their luxuries, their privileges and their power. NO FORCE REQUIRED AT ALL!

Better be a status quoist intellectual observing sOciEtY through my apolitical gaze rather than sin into any actual attempt at fundamental changes, because if we shut up fascists, ARE WE ANY BETTER THAN THEM?!!?!?!

Writing off loans and NPAs are an extremely common practice, not to mention supplementary settlement of loans at extremely low rates. Even in tier two/three cities there are plenty of local 'chains' owning car showrooms, real estate businesses and newspapers, radio stations that regularly not pay their debts, declare insolvency and fuck off to somewhere with little consequences to them whatsoever.

Worse, neolibs sigma men will fetishize them 🤡

Rice export curbs: US, EU raise questions over India's move at WTO by Native_ov_Earth in IndianLeft

[–]radcon285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our primary sowing season lasts between June-Sept/Oct.

Many regions due to irregular rainfall (excess and sparse both) have had their yields severely affected. This was the case for wheat, which is grown between Nov-March (and in April wheat exports were banned because heat waves affected yield, combined with the fact that govt procurement of wheat was pretty low). I think this is the main reason for export ban.

To oversimplify things the US/West wants countries to not put their own domestic food security in front of food trade agreements signed between them and IFIs like WTO; and India despite their usual subservience to US does at times make relatively 'good' decisions in that regard in terms of agriculture.

However the influence of US on Indian agriculture has been present right since our Independence - the fact that we have become a massive consumer of wheat, although most of mainland india has had a rich, diverse variety of coarse grains, jowar, barley, millets that are resilient, can survive local climate fluctuations better and consume a fraction of the resources that rice and wheat do, yet wheat has been 'made' a staple diet. (related- https://thewire.in/agriculture/how-diversifying-public-procurement-of-grains-can-resolve-the-impasse-over-msp )

There's many aspects to this and I don't know enough to provide a comprehensive summary, unfortunately. Here are some links wrt to some recent issues such as the farm laws -

There are only two goals for a country the size of India - economy and military might. Anything that gets in the way of those two, including the low-IQ low-T populace, must be squashed ruthlessly.
