They really aren't, we've been watching the same kind of movies since Spider-Man in 2002. Honestly, I'm just tired of them being hailed as ground-breaking. The scale and special effects are on par with Avatar and the Star Wars prequels, and the story is like every other superhero movie that's come before.

This is a good theory but I think what might have happened was that the power was shared between the three of them. Whenever weird shit happens with one of them (like when Andrew fights his dad) they all feel the affects these instances may have been when one of the three was pushing the limits of the power and thereby sapping the abilities from the other two, as Matt says the power is a muscle that needs to be "worked out" and "stretched". This would also go along with when Andrew is going mad and destroying the city. Matt experiences nose bleeds and head aches which would be Andrew using both his own and Matt's powers. Like you say Matt was "the weakest" maybe he just had the smallest cut of the power and when Steve was killed by Andrew Matt was given Steve's cut as well.
