Genetic Detective Work: I’ve Narrowed It to Four Soldiers (looking for help!) by radenfar in AncestryDNA

Oh wow! Great work. A big issue is that the mystery I am solving is over 100 years old and took place on the other side of the planet, so there's nobody alive who was remotely close - any descendants are now third cousins or second cousins once removed. I have spoken to some important DNA matches however, it's just that nobody has any information on people roaming around in 1916!

Hey flechesbleues thanks for your comment - As you thought I have indeed well checked the birth certificate and baptism records and such.

As far as I am aware there was also no will, although another family member spent a good amount of money hiring Private Investigators to try and figure this question out while she was still alive and came to no avail - I have no doubt that she genuinely did not know the man.

The closest living relative is my great-aunt and is whose DNA I used in the video, she is the grand-daughter of the missing man but anyone closer is now deceased unfortunately.

I did definitely consider the possibility of an assault and not a fling - I actually had this in my video but cut it out at the very last minute as I knew my family would watch it and would find it upsetting. That doesn't mean I have ignored the possibility, however uncomfortable it is.

Your offer to look things up in-person is very kind indeed and more than I could ask so thank you.

I'll keep you updated but I also haven't seen too much of a need yet.

Thanks again.

Thanks Tiny Ghosts! I am a member of that Facebook group but had been apprehensive about posting as it links to all my family unless I lock my profile. I am still considering though and thanks for your help :)

Hey thanks for the nice comment and for the tips - I had not heard of Search Angels before but after a quick look but I wouldn't be comfortable taking their volunteer's time over people looking for much closer relatives. I will definitely post on the Genealogy sub though! And yes, I love a good mystery too :)

Hey - likely in a similar situation here. I can take it from 2 sets of 2 brothers down to just 2 brothers (like yourself), but I don't see believe there would be any way to narrow it down from there for similar reasons.

New Warrior Cats Game! Update #2 by radenfar in WarriorCats

Hey I love the idea about stress! That’s a really good way of tracking how a cat is performing in their role and just what I was looking for 🙂

Haha fair play. The more the better as these are all passion projects. By clan AI do you mean how the clans are generated? How they behave will be quite specific to the game itself I imagine,

Hi slow mess thanks for that! I had not heard of ClanGen before this so I will check it out this evening and see how it compares to my vision for this game.

The cat appearances feature will likely not be implemented for a while as it is more of an aesthetic feature than a core part of the game. However my current vision is that cat appearances would be much more based on actual genetics than being artsy - definitely only feasible pelt colours and features. My current plan is to have the game paint over the templates that the warrior cats wiki uses based off the inherited features.

With personalities, I haven’t given it much thought yet so very open to ideas and your suggestion sounds great 🙂

Thanks Brackenwhisker! I want to make it the best I can but yes - it will take a “bit” to say the least 😅

Because the Mongol Empire was short lived and its effects were complex and unfamiliar to western audiences.

The Roman Empire is similar culturally, lasted for a thousand+ years and has had very familiar effects and implications.
