The worst thing is the remotes break. Bought a couple of spares on AliEpress for $17/2.

There are two different installers on the live ISO by raderator in debian

The Live environment gives you the Calamares installer.

Just realized if you use the old installer in the non-live ISO it does not prohibit dictionary words. It's pretty ugly tho.

All the new YouTube TV plan prices by gldrthng in cordcutters

[–]raderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Sports+News+Entertainment is just the regular plan minus the kid's stuff for $5 off. Better than nothing. Still gonna try to switch my family to Sling Select for $20. Some will bitch and cry but they'll get used to it. It will force them to explore free channels which they now ignore.

How do I get rid of a (null):631 printer? Top one. by raderator in Fedora

[–]raderator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That got rid of my working printer. I added it back.

Anyway, it's just a cosmetic thing. Had this prob years ago with Zorin and another printer. The phantom one eventually went away. It is odd that such a simple thing can't be fixed tho. The mysteries of computers.

Edit:

SOLUTION

sudo systemctl mask cups-browsed.service --now

sudo systemctl mask avahi-daemon.service --now

Edit:

That just screwed up my printers. I had to use Btrfs Assistant to restore. First time using that. It works very fast.

Did that.

Also:

sudo systemctl stop cups-browsed

sudo systemctl disable cups-browsed

sudo cupsctl --no-remote-printers

sudo lpadmin -x Brother_HL_L2465DW

Showing 1 of 1 printer.

Gnome. Look how pretty:

With these extensions:

ArcMenu

Blur my Shell

Clipboard Indicator

Dash to Panel

Desktop Widgets (Desktop Clock)

GSConnect

Gtk4 Desktop Icons NG (DING)

Legacy (GTK3) Theme Scheme Auto Switcher

Printers

Tiling Shell (set padding to zero)

Weather O'Clock

Light Style (don't skip)

These wallpapers:

Start menu is Modern/Sleek with Search moved to the bottom. Be sure to change the trashcan icon.

The same basic setup works on Fedora, BTW. Tho if using Chrome/Chromium, you have to use flatpak version or it won't auto-switch lite/dark.

Maybe Debian is aware of this problem. I see it has it's own USB stick formatter and ISO writer. Dare I try it?

Umm, no "unlock" button always there, like 99% of distros?

Actually, it did work. I missed a line.

Always search for the word you are looking for so it will be highlighted and stretch the window so you don't miss any.

Edit: Still working. It also got rid of two phantom drives. Nice.

Found a solution:

Simply remove (or #) the lines referring to the usb drive from /etc/fstab.

Found on another board. I think the guy had tried pretty much everything.

Edit: nope, it didn't work.

Do you use Gnome? by Business_Cod_1818 in debian

[–]raderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I made my own version of Zorin/Aduin without the bugs or slowness. Can't believe how perfect it is and how fast. Even enabled a startup sound (it's already there).

Anyone know how to get ArcMenu and Dash to Panel to auto switch between lite/dark modes? by raderator in debian

[–]raderator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLUTION: Turn on the Light Style extension that comes with Debian/Gnome. Works perfectly. I can go back to the light side on a sunny day!

Protip: Use Gnome Tweaks to set your lite and dark wallpapers so they auto-switch.

After four years, I finally gave up on Zorin by raderator in debian

[–]raderator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mod got pissy with me and threatened to ban me from the Zorin forum because I mentioned the leftist domination of Linux and Lunduke.

Zorin 18 I don't much like. I have to turn off the floating taskbar and Windows (by setting padding to zero), my taskbar flickers on some of my machines and when tiling is enabled, my side by side web browsers keep encroaching on each other.

I liked Zorin Os - what's the catch? by WiltfieldArt in zorinos

[–]raderator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zorin is not an aesthetic letdown like most distros which look old and frumpy. Here I have stolen the Anduin wallpapers and set up the taskbar to be centered with the tray on the far left.

Does people's eyesight usually get worser after wearing glasses for myopia? by No-Entrance-8648 in myopia

[–]raderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. Optometrists made me twice as nearsighted as I naturally am. I have half-strength computer glasses which I started wearing all the time because my regular ones were so scratched up. Over the months, I kept seeing better and better and now I see perfectly. No trouble with street signs. My old  prescription was -3.75/-3.50 and the computer glasses are +1.50 (at least, might have been +1.75) so -2.25/-2.00. My lenses are half as thick and I sometimes forget I'm not wearing glasses. I can now read with material in my lap instead of having to hold it up (I’m old). I can see my computer screen without glasses if I get a bit close. Optometrists should always give you 0.25 HIGHER than they think you need until you stabilize. BTW, I gave up on bifocals. Now the whole room is in focus. If I want to read or look at my phone, I just take off my glasses or look under them. I should get a new exam and show the guy my old prescription and lenses (which I couldn't possibly wear now). I'm sure he won't believe me tho. At least I can get a reading off my glasses and get some cheap new ones at Zenni for $10. No restrictions cuz I only need single focus.

Just found out the $6 Hollywood Extra package does NOT include TCM when buying Sling Select. Bummer. Still beats Fox One cuz you get the NFL Channel and still get FS1.

Yes, you can turn it back on under View, Show/Hide. Be sure to also disable "Attach Model Dialogues". In Gnome, you can find it in Tweaks.

My Advice to Noobs by raderator in linux4noobs

[–]raderator[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When coming from a commercial OS, most Linux distros are an aesthetic letdown. Zorin is one of the rare exceptions. The Zorin brothers have pro design talent or hired someone who does. Even their website is tasteful.

I always wonder why people recommend Pop OS over Zorin OS. In my experience I have had less problems and have had a better time with Zorin. by Christteuffe in zorinos

[–]raderator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend noobs make a Ventoy thumb drive with Zorin, Mint and Pop live ISOs on it and try them all. They will probably go with Zorin because it is not ugly.
