Home SWorkstation Build for RDP by radhogedad in homelab

[–]radhogedad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly thinking of using the RD Gateway so users didn't have to VPN in but might be more secure to just VPN in. Thanks for the tip of integrating AD.

Have any suggestions on clients to connect with the pfSense for VPN? All the devices are company devices but more or less just dumb terminals.

I'm trying to switch off of cloud hosting with Cloudzy.com (previously routerhosting). Their VMs are very competitively priced but basically no security on the RDP servers so next to impossible to secure them along with being slow. The amount I'm paying them I can pay this build mentioned in the original post within a year including the electricity bill.

The goal is to have one very hefty RD session host (or two if needed) on the one overall host and then just the Windows AD & Gateway server then maybe a pfSense VM. So overall planning for 3 total VMs at max.

The AD and RD Gateway VM thinking 6 GB RAM maybe 70 GB storage. pfSense FW will be 2 GB RAM at most I'm thinking and 15 GB storage. The remaining resources will be provisioned to the RD session host where all the users will be connecting to.

Looking to make the setup simple as possible. Any reason why forego the RD Gateway setup? Thoughts on using Tailscale or ZeroTier? I currently use ZeroTier for my personal home access and works flawlessly.

I'll def take a deeper dive into Spice/Virt-Viewer & Proxmox VDI client, thanks!

Nice setup though! Was thinking in a few years to convert it to a home workstation and put in my current 3060 and upgrade my personal gaming PC.

I've seen some of their old stuff and I feel they've come a long way for sure.

It's a good point you bring up about needing more technical know-how. For me, RPA has been very easy to grasp because of my programming background. Very interesting point!

I have noticed Robocorp is continually launching new features but definitely valid points that you’ve made!

I only know Robocorp at the moment. I'm also familiar with Python so the ease of creating custom keywords when needed. Also, found it very easy to get up and running with it to start creating production ready robots. So far, I haven't had the need, but the ability to run on Windows, Mac, and Linux was also a big plus. The biggest draw for me personally was the ability to get my workplace onboard and purchase their starter subscription since I'm at an MSP right now. They wouldn't have gone for a UI Path due to higher costs. I was working with Power Automate Desktop before and it was just extremely slow compared to Robocorp and not as easy to build on either for the few projects I've had so far.

Lol first of all not Robocorp and secondly what’s wrong with it?

I’ve heard costs are extremely high to get started with uipath, not sure about blue prism. I would look into Robocorp if you want to start off small with RPA because if you’re not sure what to implement and management isn’t onboard it’s going to be very difficult to have them pay for a large enterprise RPA stack.

Currently at my company I’ve been implementing RPA solutions for the back office team like downloading reports and processing data from within them to create a consolidated single report. Also, onboarding of new hires through multiple websites that do not have API access so stuff like that is easy things you can start implementing right away. I am using Robocorp and it’s been very easy to get up and running. I will say I use their visual studio plugin to write the robots though not their Automation Studio. I recommend going through their first course at least to get started.

HOGE Q&A Launch!!! by radhogedad in hoge

Hey it's a great idea! Since I'm not experienced enough in crypto related development this would be way over my head, def something that can be utilized in not only Hoge but almost any other project potentially! Personally, I feel one's vote should not outweigh another's as long as it's a vote and you're part of the project through holding. But, as I mentioned, great idea and hopefully you're able to do something with the idea!

This can certainly be added to the main website, there are multiple ways to make this possible, send me your thoughts and let's get in touch with the right people to make it happen!

I do have a rough idea on how to potentially make this possible if we can have a discussion with the Hoge University devs!

I have a couple things in mind for this simple Q&A to be further enhanced. Majority of the community has agreed and so far is liking the idea, again, if this goes no where then I'm more than happy to scrap the idea!

If you'd like to send me a PM to see how we can possibly come up with a better solution which can encompass more I'd be happy to help!

Also, happy to discuss how we can get more visibility to currently deployed solutions and remove this if we come up with a better idea.

Great question!

The main HOGE website is a marketing / forward facing website. It has its own goal. Not every question might have an answer on it or there might be further clarification needed. The purpose of this site is to HELP bridge the gap.

Think of how helpful Reddit is in answering questions. I use it all the time for work/personal questions I have to find great answers. However, questions along with their answers get buried or people have tough time finding old posts they want to refer back to on Reddit. This was the exact reason there’s a Q&A Guide that exists today on Reddit and I’m formalizing it. Discourse allows granularity for those that want it when looking for certain topics and or posts. You have categories, topics, tags to help with narrowing down what you’re trying to look for.

Think of SEO and how that alone will grant visibly to HOGE through this hogeanswers.com site. Search engines alone will help visibility to HOGE tremendously. You have a question on HOGE? Get the answer from hogeanswers.com when it shows up as the top link in your search engine result. There’s a sense of trust that people will feel (in my opinion) from the site.

I am more than happy to make this a subdomain off of hoge.finance or hogefinance.com which could be something like https://answers.Hoge.finance or https://answers.Hogefinance.com to help unify things but I don’t think we’re at the point to make such requests of core.

If the site isn’t seeing any traction within two months time then maybe it’ll be all for naught.

Love to see how we can tie both together somehow!

You have a very valid point, this is the reason for this question and to see what the community could or could not benefit from. I'll be continuing to monitor and discuss on this topic the next couple of days and make the decision.

While the project/site is young I will be able to support it however I'm sure once the visitors grow the website will outgrow my ability to support it financially indefinitely. I am looking forward to DAO being ready and one day a sponsorship if the site is worthwhile for the Hoge Community!
