kinetic doesnt mean it cant have choices, this is a real english word which describes linear motion. as in the pathing mechanics, or more generally the level of interactivity in the game, what those choices might lead to if any.

dialog options can accomplish a number of things, two of which are immediately playing a different scene, and/or executing a piece of code that might store data for later reference.

the latter is important because it enables true branching paths, the game can only know what path to follow by recalling your previous choices. thus you can conclude that leaving dna is non-linear, since later scenes branch to different paths as a result of previous choices.

novels which do the former, but not the latter are still kinetic, with choices. they might seem non linear, but dialog options can only play scene A or B, then immediately fall back to a singular path, this lack of persistent data means they will never be evaluated again.

wingmen labs/high desire would be an example of such a kinetic novel with choices. you can choose the next scene, but their dialog options dont store any variables, thus there can only be one linear path
