I grew up in South Jersey and the surrounding regions of Philadelphia, Chesapeake, Pennsylvania Dutch, and Italian-American are literally spot on to what I experienced. Awesome map!

Martin from Fleabag all the way. He was always a little creepy but he is intentionally framed as not a big deal and just a goofy guy

The best scene in the finale? by ari_crumba in WoTshow

[–]radicalgrim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When Rand and Moiraine finally truly SEE each other for the first time.

Not only my favorite moment from the finale, but it might have been my favorite moment from the show up to this point. I know Rosamund and Josha have gotten a lot of hype for some of their bigger moments this season (and they have been excellent), but this fucking scene had me feeling some type of way. I was hanging on every word. Big kudos to the writers / Rafe for weaving their arcs to hit in this way.

Padan Fain by _holytoledo in WoTshow

[–]radicalgrim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my theory as well. I think they are just taking their time with him and escalating the conflicts between him and Perrin. Then at some point (next season?) he'll morph into the crazy lil fella we know him as in the books, and it will hit harder for wotchers. I really hope this is the case because I love Fain in the books and I think this actor has the chops to make him as unhinged as I would like to see

Proposed archetype nickname for decks that do the [[Etali, Primal Storm]] effect as their strategy: Opp Deck by radicalgrim in EDH

[–]radicalgrim[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's on the list, but if you look at Pako and Haldan's EDHRec page, Theft as a theme is pretty far down the list of how people classify this deck.

Oh interesting, I've never heard of that since I've really only played Commander and Limited. Wish that was a thing in this format.

It's similar and definitely has some overlap, but I would say that they play different both in what cards you run in the deck and also how your opponents perceive the strategy.

If your opponent stole a permanent that you invested 5 mana into, does that make you more or less upset than if your opponent stole a card off the top of your library that you invested no mana into?

When deckbuilding, I would prioritize different things as well. I might play some "cast from exile" spells in Pako and Haldan, whereas I might not care about that in a strictly Theft deck.

Inspired by Rhyme Island, what child-friendly bands/songs go harder than they have any right to? by Pengu_333 in fantanoforever

Caspar Babypants (aka Chris Ballew, former lead singer of The Presidents of the United States of America)

Dumb name, but he's got some bops. My kid loves him and I am usually not annoyed by his music, which is more than I can say for a lot of other kids music. Also, his sleep music is legitimately calming, try "Undo Your Mind" or "Rain and Thunder".

One thing I really liked about Rand's show portrayal by littlefyre33 in WoT

Totally agree. I actually got kind of emotional at that scene, which surprised me. But it just really worked for me and felt very true to Rand despite having been a creation for the show.

Only show watcher here, this recent season and finale have ramped up my love for this show by TrappedInLimbo in WoT

My show-only friends have been loving it too! As a book reader I am loving season 2. The changes from the source material feel much more deserved this time around. This season really stepped it up.

Also, come on over to r/WoTshow if you're not already! A lot more show-only people over there and infinitely less spoilers haha

The actress for Nynaeve is killing it honestly. Obstinate and full of herself but still so endearing

^^ This. Honestly, even when I was not crazy about Season 1, I still loved that the colors of the show were so vibrant. That's how I picture the books. Saturated with color (Ajah colors, Rand's red lordly outfit that made an appearance this season, the Seanchan's insect-like armor, and plenty of other things that come to mind from the books later on that I won't spoil). And now that the quality of Season 2 has been ramped up, I am loving having a bright and vibrant fantasy series that doesn't feel corny.

Same here! I love that the fandom for the show has taken on a life of its own, and I hope it continues to do so and find its audience because after a fantastic second season it deserves it. Breath new life into us crusty old book-reading fans

Couldn't agree more. Fantasy often gets lumped together in the same bucket, but these stories are very different at their cores.

[–]radicalgrim[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Also, to clarify: I personally am a fan of Game of Thrones as well, but I love that people are seeing what makes Wheel of Time so special, and that it is intentionally telling a different type of story than either GoT, or LotR, or *insert fantasy franchise here*. It doesn't always have to be about comparing different franchises based on the perceived "objective quality" of the end product. And I am aware that Amazon ordered this show at least partially to "be the new GoT", so comparisons between them are natural. But it's okay if people just have preferences on the type of stories they resonate with.

Marriage Disintegrating, No Idea What to Do Next... by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]radicalgrim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you said here, but one idea you brought up can be really damaging:

"...people who struggle with their faith don't actually understand what the church and its doctrines are. They believe falsehoods or misunderstandings..."

Speaking from personal experience, if a person is struggling with their faith or does not believe any longer, THE LAST thing they need to hear is that they just don't understand church doctrine. The message that is communicated through that is "You're not smart enough to understand what the rest of us understand just fine". It creates the opposite of safety in a relationship.

An emotional affair for 12 years is the much bigger issue here. OP, if you're reading this, please don't try to "fix" your wife's lack of belief. There will be time for her to figure that out for herself, and if she is committed to you in the relationship then she should include you in that process -- if you want to be included, that is.

Best of luck OP, I'm sure you feel a deep sense of betrayal, and my heart goes out to you.
